Bf 110 E-2 Trop 1/48
This is the Dragon kit and It's highly detailed with good parts fit. The parts count is high, over 50 for the cockpit area alone and over 270 total. The instructions to me were confusing with too much info on too little paper space.
I used Quinta cockpit decals, Rexx exhausts and Reskit wheels aftermarket items to enhance the build. The Reskit wheels are actually a must because the kit supplied wheels are too small. I also used Albion brass tube for the nose gun blast tubes and the pitot tube. Lead wire was used for the windscreen grab handles and the canopy lock lever and the hydraulic landing gear pipes. The knobs for the sliding side panels of the canopy sides were made from sprue. The kit supplies photoetch for the DF loops. I used copper wire formed around a pencil to replace the etched parts. Paints were a combination of Xtracrylix, Vallejo, Pollyscale and Color of Eagles water based acrylics. The model represents an aircraft from 7./ZG 26 Libya, 1942.
Excellent job and really great result, Dale!
Thanks Spiros.
This is a fine looking result, dale @dtravis
Nice work on the desert scheme as well.
Thanks for your positive comment John
Well done, Dale
thanks Gary
Very nice painting!
Thanks
Nice work, Dale.
Thanks John
Very nice build Dale, @dtravis. I would agree it is a good kit, I have built the Monogram, Fujimi, Dragon, and Eduard Bf-110 kits and found this one to be the best or at least most fun. Offering a good mix of detail with out too many build challenges. Yours looks great! I like the North African scheme.
Thanks Walt. Did you find the instructions as bad as I did? @luftwaffe-birdman
Yes Dale, @dtravis I found them extremely compact with a whole lot of assembly for each picture and often not related subassemblies. The Eduard kit instruction are about twice as long and still jam packed too.
Great build! The paint and weathering work is excellent. Well done.
Thanks much Greg
Impressive build Dale. The weathering and wear capture the feel of an actual aircraft.
I appreciate your comment Russel
Excellent build Dale. I didn't realise Dragons kit has such a good reputation for a good build. I have Eduards and Pro Modellers versions and each of those has slight issues. Your build looks top notch Dale
@thom Thanks for your positive comments. I think the Dragon is the best kit in 1/48. The only negative is the instructions I found to be illogical in build sequences and confusing as to part placement.
that
G’day Dale (@dtravis),
This is a lovely build and the scheme looks great. Single colours can be hard to pull off but this is great.
I have heard the problrms with the Eduard kit (I have three in the stash) and have a Monogram on the shelf of purgatory (I do intend to finish it) and a Dragon Bf 110D. It is good to hear that the latter is a good build experience.
Liked!
Thanks Michael. It's a good kit and I think the best in 1/48. @michaett
Beautiful work, Dale.
Amazing paint work.
Thanks George foe your comments! @georgeswork
Excellent work, honestly I am not familiar with the Dragon 110, built the Monogram BF110G-4, have the Fujimi kit in the stash, aware of the Eduard's kit. After seeing this build, I will look for one to add for a future build. Your version is excellent as usual, the right amount ot weathering on the desert scheme is on par. The delicate details and the decal work is very well done. I will agree working on prior DML/Dragon kits, aircraft and armor, the instruction sheet tend to get a bit busy and vague. I just hope that building similar aircraft will be sufficient to figure at times how to complete each step. The Bf-110 is a great subject and your build is a great motivator in buidling one soon, thanks for sharing. Merry Christmas
@uscusn Thanks very much Chuck. Yes pick one of these up. .The main parts fit is so good I actually painted the fuselage wings and tail plane separately and then assembled them. A modeler of your capability will have no problem getting a good result. Merry Christmas to you and yours!
