Wooden Model BAR M1918A1
This is the model BAR. Browning Automatic Rifle, first put into service in 1917. Chambered in the 30.06 Springfield cartridge, this weapon had a range of 4,500 to 5,000 yards but not accurate. Max effective range was 1,500 yards. The system fired semi auto and full automatic, seen here with the 20 round box magazine. The bar was also used extensively in the second world war in Europe by US forces, as well as in the pacific. This model is mainly built from Basswood. Magazine was made from pine. The handle was also part cardboard with wood. The muzzle was also reinforced cardboard alongside the wood. Some of the barrel was maple and PVC pipe. Built from scratch.
@aaronbouma this is really great. I built a Browning 1919 few years ago so I know how hard it is to work in wood so I appreciate the work you put into this. The detachable magazine is a real bonus. Thanks for sharing your work.
Very nice, Aaron!
Fantastic craftsmanship, Arron @aaronbouma
Creating this detachable magazine is far from easy, but you did it perfectly.
Well done.
Wow! Terrific work on the wooden BAR. We don't see wooden items on this site, especially work done as nicely as your BAR. Thanks for sharing.
Very impressive work on this model ,
Well done !
Nice! Resist putting the bipod on it, my father said that was the first thing that he removed from his. I think he chucked the handle as well, trying to save weight.
