Airfix 1/72 McDonnell Douglas Phantom FGR.2 XV424 – IAT Greenham Common 1979.
Another in my series of Phantom builds.
The Airfix kit went together in it's normal fashion.
The decals were a very different story, brittle, thin and had to be patched many times from the spares box.
I wouldn't recommend them to anyone.
Primed with Mr. Surfacer 1500 Black.
Painted with
Colourcoats Light Aircraft Grey and Dark Gull Grey.
Mr. Color Off-White.
Tamiya Rubber Black, Nato Black.
Xtreme Metals Gun Metal, Steel, Pale Burnt Metal, Burnt Metal and Jet Exhaust.
Finished with Windsor & Newton Galeria Satin Varnish.
AM used.
Eduard Cockpit Set,
AeroCraft Exhaust Cans,
Xtradecal X72297
That’s a great looking Phantom ! I like the commemorative markings on it.

Beautiful build, Alistair. I looked up the IAT Greenham Common and found this pic. The aircraft at this show were amazing. Great post!

Thank you so much.
Its frustrating to go through the build process and have problomatic decals. Nice recovery tho. Looks good!
Thanks very much
It just cost a little more time.
Nicely done Alistair, great scheme / subject.
Thanks very much.
Very nice build and an interesting scheme, Alistair @alistairfgauld! Is this the new tooling from Airfix?
Many Thanks.
It's the latest tooling from Airfix first issued in 2017 I believe
Well done, Alistair. I like the commemorative markings with card display
Thanks very much.
I had the signed cover and it seemed to be fitting to have them together.
Nice Phantom! I have yet to build a Spey-engined Rhino, but plan on it soon.
Thanks very much Greg,
I'll look forward to your Spey Toom.
Very nice Phantom!
Thanks so much.
