Messerschmitt Bf109E - 1/72
This is a 1994 boxing of the 1976 Hasegawa Bf109E with decals for three of Luftwaffe ace Adolf Galland's aircraft in 1940. I built it as the December 1940 version of E.W. number 5819 at Audembert, France, when Galland was CO of Jagdgeschwader Schlageter 26 (JG 26). It includes the personal Mickey Mouse emblem, and the ZFR-4 telescope of the front of the canopy.
The kit called for RLM 65 underside and RLM 74/75 uppers, but other manufacturers showed RLM 02/71, and I went with that.
What exactly Galland flew and how it appeared at difference stages is the subject of intensive research. He flew 5819 primarily from 7 September 1940 through 10 April 1941, and it has extensive photo documentation, showing numerous changes through that period. I opted for the later date because that's when it has the yellow pointed spinner, the Mickey Mouse emblem, the telescope, and the larger number of kill markings on the rudder.
Great choice of finishes, Michael.
That '76 tooling does stand the test of time, nicely done.
Excellent result from this old tooling, Michael!
Great looking yellow nosed Emil, Michael @inchhigh
Especially considering this is just a 1/72 model.
That's also a very nice color picture of Galland's aircraft. Is it converted from black/white?
Unfortunately yes. I thought it was color originally when I used it as a reference, and then realized it was colorized. But it was still help figuring out the extend of the mottling.
Good looking 109! Well done.
Nice job on that old kit - looks great!
Nicely done Michael.
