Believe I’ll post something today, too….

May 18, 2013 · in Aviation · · 12 · 1.5K

Built this when it first came out. A fairly easy build, added some interior and engine details. Finish is Alclad White Aluminum mixed with a littleTestor's flat yellow, to get the "Japanese Navy protective coating" tinge. All markings are sprayed 'cept numbers. Please excuse the experimental backgrounds.

  1. That's a crisp build, Bill. I favor your interpretation of the amber lacquer coating- I'll bet that if you took photos in grayscale that it would emulate the tones in vintage photos very well. An simple, but very elegant looking machine. Nice work!

  2. Really nice - I think you nailed the finish.

  3. Nothing wrong with THOSE a/c backgrounds...nice build/photos.

  4. Very high quality painting!

  5. tight and clean looking bird

  6. The word "Professional " comes to mind. Great build and photo's, Magazine quality all around.

  7. Wooooooooooooooooooww niiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiice!
I've build one too... can be found somewhere here on Imodeler...

  8. Nice work! I like your take on the yellow tint too. Now when will we get one of these in 1/48? It's a ripe subject for Hasegawa!

    • John,
I know it is probably impossible to get anymore but, Hasagaa did do an A5M2a in 1/48. It was a "Fine Molds" kit and all the instructions are in Japanese. The date on the kit I have is 1992. The fusalage is a little over 5 1/2".
