Stearman PT-17

June 25, 2020 · in Aviation · · 18 · 2.3K

Here's my . This was the first time I tried rigging with micro tubing and ring anchors. It was a tedious process but, it sure looks good when done. Better than cleaning up and painting tank bogie wheels! ? I think I will grab another one and do the Navy version as well. A very good kit by Revell!

  1. Very nice, splendid yellow and the rigging looks solid and realistic, well done!

  2. Fine looking Stearman!

  3. Great job! The paint job is fantastic and the rigging is very well done. Personally, I'll take bogies over rigging anytime.

  4. This is a beautiful model...I especially like the rigging work.

I was very fortunate and once I got a ride in one of these. It is among my most cherished memories. I'm an old US Army tanker... so I'm biased towards "bogie wheels". I can tell you from personal experience that you don't want to change track (or sprockets) too often.

Thanks for sharing your work with us... It looks magnificent.

    "liked"

  5. This model shines in all the right places and is definitely a WINNER from every angle you look at it.

  6. Nice work on all areas. The rigging is particularly of note. Doing it as a restored antique reminds me of 100 happy flying hours 40+ years ago in Sacramento in good old "Boeing 747 Junior" (the registration was N747JR). A couple of photos of her over the Sacramento Delta, with a friend.

  8. That's a great model, Scott!
Rigging is exceptional, among the best I've seen!
Got the same kit too, intending to build it as Hellenic trainer.
    All the best!

  9. Sweet as! Well done. I am still traumatised by the bogie wheels on the Airfix Churchhill I built as a kid.

  10. Fine looking model. A bit tempted to do a Swedish one...entirely what-if, of course.

  11. Fabulous build, Scott.
Besides the incredible ringing quality, also the overall result is great.

  12. Thanks for sharing - I have to move mine forward in the "build soon" lineup. Here is the one I had a lot of fun with some 10 years ago.

    ahhhh that sound 🙂

  13. A beautiful build Scott. Love the scheme, and excellent job on the rigging.

  14. Nicely done! a real eye catcher.

  15. Wow, a seriously good model kit. I'm due to start a model of the one my Dad was learning to fly at No1 BFTS at Terrell in Texas. They've had a Stearman donated to them. When they traced its history, it had actually been one of the instructional Stearmans at No1 BFTS. To make matters even better, a trawl through Dad's logbook, he had actually flown it!
