This was another futile German project to stop the allied bomber masses and change the course of war.
Two test aircraft were fitted with a modified 5cm PaK, V899 and V083. The first maiden flight (V899) was on March 19th 1945. The same aircraft was used for the first and only combat sortie on April 16th 1945 but no shot was fired due to a jammed gun.
At the end of the war, V899 was blown up by the Germans, V083 could be captured by US troops. It was named" Wilma Jeanne", later "Happy Hunter II". During Operation Lusty, the aircraft was flown by German testpilot Ludwig Hofmann from Lechfeld to Melun. Due to an engine fire the pilot had to bail out and the aircraft was destroyed.
A third U4 version that was in conversion progress in Augsburg was captured by British troops.
Brilliant, that looks very cool with the US markings. I always enjoy models based on something just a bit different to the normal presentation. Well done, looks great.
Your dad is really producing great models, Reinhard.
This 262 is another example of his modelling quality.
With this canon on the nose, a mosquito might even get jealous.
Love it too, Reinhard!
A rare version!
Another quality model, and man, what a stinger!
