A-90 Orlyonok 1/144 Zvezda
Unusual for me to scale and theme. But it was interesting to build a ekranoplan (WIG).
Best regards, Vlad.

Very interesting looking plane. Aside from the tail-mounted engines, are those engine outtakes in the nose as well? It looks huge in that scale compared to the 1/144 biplanes next to it! I hope you did well at the show. Great work.
Alan, thank you!
Yes, there are two in the nose of the engine to the air under the wings. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A-90_Orlyonok
Best regards, Vlad.
Looks great Vlad but it's missing & upper wing & the rigging.
๐ ๐ ๐ Oh, yes!
Al, thank you!

Very eye-catching example, Vlad...and well done I may add. So let me see if I got this right - that opening in the [top] nose is an engine intake (and those are exhausts on the forward fuselage?). AND it's only a single-engine counter-rotating turboprop?
Those crazy Russians sure had some wierd-lookin' aeroplanes, didn't they? ๐
Craig, thank you!
Two engines in the nose and one on the tail...
We have Russian proverb: It is better to see once than hear a hundred times. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AHcxmZ0qI7Y
Best regards, Vlad.
Oh...so there's two INTERNAL engines located in the nose that we can't see. Gotcha.
That is some Caspian Sea Monster there Vlad.
Looks really mean.
Well done Vlad.
Simon, thank you!
Caspian Sea Monster more than Orlyonok.

Thanks for putting me right Vlad, my history of East European Planes is not that good.
Very cool build.
The ekranoplans have always fascinated me. Are there any left that are still operational?
Jaime, thank you!
As far as I know, no big ekranoplanes now.
There is one unfinished. But his future prospects are not clear.
There are several different small WIG.

Great build Vlad,a strange looking beast, soviet or russian engineering has gone own ways.Must be an awesome sight to see this in action.
As said above, its very nice and yes, no rigging !
Bernd, thank you!
Little rigging there. Rope antenna. ๐

Good looking build of a very interesting machine Vlad. I really like your finish, nice variation without looking like waffle.
Very cool! Does Zvezda plan to do a series of ekronoplans? Not my usual scale, but I'd get them just cause they're cool. (And the Caspian Sea Monster is awesome!) You've done this some justice. Looks just like I've seen in videos. This looks like it would've been more efficient than the LUN due to the engines adding to the ground effect under the wings. These are some very interesting machines. Not quite a boat, not really an airplane. I think I need one to cruise around Lake Winnebago!
An awesome beast! Well done!
It certainly looks attractive on the display table with the other models, but not an aircraft type I'm too familiar with - I assume from other comments that it's a monster-size plane.
Thank you, friends! ๐

These have always interested me. Very well done. I would have liked to just hear one of these monsters skipping along just above the water. Very nice!

Great job Vlad. When I was in the service years ago we kept our eyes on these "Caspian Sea Monsters" via satellite. Very interesting subject and kit.
Dennis, thank you!
I can imagine your surprise when you found him! ๐
