Tamiya 1/35 Pz.Kpfw.V Ausf.G

August 13, 2023 · in Armor · · 4 · 353

My first completed. This is the Ausf.G steel wheel version manufactured by M.A.N. in limited numbers.
As expected, the kit came together easily. This Tamiya is a 1993 tooling and for the most part is nicely detailed. But I wanted to add some upgrades and a bit of scratch building. After-market included Aber metal gun barrel, grilles & antennae, R Model metal tracks and decals from Archer Fine Transfers. The metal tracks looked great and added nice weight but the metal was relatively soft and all the guide horn holes required cleanup.
I added some epoxy welds, gun depression stops, headlight cable, cupola gun sights. I also rebuilt the hull spare track link mounts, added the turret track link hooks, replaced the plastic tow cables with copper wire and drilled out the machine gun muzzles & the exhaust pipes. One could always do more but I stopped there. I liked how it was coming along and wanted to finish the build.

Finished in Tamiya acrylics. Dark Yellow (XF60), Dark Green (XF61) & Red Brown (XF64) camouflage. My first tri-color camouflage. Hand painted numbers on tracks on turret. Oil pin washes & enamel weathering. Completed August 2023.
