F6F 1/32 Model: Different Expression after Two Years

This article is part of a series:
  1. F6F Hellcat 1/32 Scale Model: One Wing Folded
  2. F6F 1/32 Model: Different Expression after Two Years

Two years ago, in March 2022, I built my first scale kit: the F6F-5N Night . It focused on heavy ocean conditions and used a single color, dark ocean blue, throughout the fuselage and wings.

After refining my painting techniques repeatedly, I finished another build this summer, especially in rendering stressed or damaged skin (#inca_rendering). The results were different this time.

Yesterday, I placed both models on the garden workbench under the shade. I'll let you all share your comments and observations on these two builds.

  1. I really like both! I think you achieved the results you were looking for with each build. Next up you should combined the two and try a heavily weathered build with stressed skin. Excellent work on both of these! Do you have any works in progress or tutorials on how you achieved the stressed skin look?

  2. Nice looking Hellcats. I would like to try the stressed skin effect but haven't gotten to it.

I never look at a model and say that's the peak of my skills. I always treat it as a learning experience.

I tell myself the next will be better... I hope.

  3. They both look outstanding. I've been wanting to try the stressed skin effect as well. I really want to try the stressed skin effect where you grind the plastic along the rivet lines. I love the look, but I think I'll do it with the painting technique first. You definitely achieved that look , and it's great.

  4. Excellent technique, Alex!

  5. Two beautiful Hellcats, Alex @superdad1688
Definitely a technique that I still want to give a try.

  6. I would love to experiment with this technique, but not sure how it would play out in 1/72.
