1/48 Hasegawa P-40K

February 11, 2013 · in Aviation · · 10 · 3K

John Hampshire's P-40K of the 23rd Fighter Group, aka Flying Tigers. The kit is the P-40K with Eduard color etch and Baracuda Cals Decals. The kit was a pleasure to build and presented no major issues as long as you're careful with the modular construction. I like to try new techniques with each build and after seeing a beautiful oil streaking job on a 1/32 Tamiya Spitfire at BUFCON in Buffalo, NY that was my goal. The Warhawk was finished with Model Master Acrylics and Windsor Newton Airtist Oils for the oil streaking. I prefer Floquil Flat Finish tinted with a drop or two of tan to bring everything together. I've got a P-40E I'm looking forward to starting and i'm considering doing a build log in the Works in Progress section, any thoughts?

  1. Nice work, Patrick...especially those detailed shots of the belly. Great job on the weathering, staining, etc.

  2. Run the pix through your graphics program and lighten them - the easy solution. The photos are fine otherwise, just need a little manipulation.

Having built the P-40K I like this model you've done. I like the whole series of Hasegawa 1/32 P-40s.

  3. Looking great now... There never was an aircraft that looked better with a sharkmouth than a P-40.

Beautiful work on the model. I especially like the oil streaks underneath, are they brush-painted?

I’ll be looking forward to your building blog on the P-40E, great idea.

  4. Very nice looking P-40 you have there, Patrick. Those oil streaks turned out looking very convincing.
I have the Hasegawa 48th scale P-40E but that modular fuselage makes me leave the box sitting on the shelf for now.
In other words; a build log on your next P-40 would be great! 🙂

  5. Simply put 10! Beautiful model.

  6. that is beautiful...love the bottom better than the top
