1/32 Revell Spitfire Mk.IIa “The Borough of Lambeth / Bette”

September 20, 2016 · in Aviation · · 14 · 3.3K

This is 1/32 Revell Spitfire Mk.IIa finished with the markings of P8088 NK-K “The Borough of Lambeth / Bette” flown by Lumsden of 118sq based at Ibsley Hampshire in May 1941.

Revell's newly tooled Spitfire Mk.IIa needs a lot of corrections and modifications though it's a new generation.

I have started from the cockpit as usual. Cockpit modified by:

  • Eduard PE instrument panel

  • Barracudacast cockpit detail set

  • Barracudacast seat

Reinforcement plates existing on the upper and lower surfaces of the wings deleted.

The shape of the wheel bulges on the upper surfaces of the wings are not correct. I have deleted and replaced them by the parts from my spare box

Size of the bulges on the cowling is not accurate. Inaccurate parts are deleted and replaced by the accurate ones from my spare box.

Size of Coffman starter blister is not accurate. I have used Hasegawa's part.

Yes this kit still needs some more corrections or modifications which are as follows

  • Eagle part oil cooler

  • Barracudacast Radiator and fabric ailerons

  • Barracudacast wheels

  • Barracudacast pilot access door.

  • Quickboost exhausts

  • Department of correction Mk.II propeller and spinner

Painting was done with Gunze Sangyo acrylics. Lower surfaces painted to RAF sky, upper surfaces to RAF Dark green and Dark earth.

Decals are from Xtradecal X32053 set.

  1. Nicely done but with one mistake. As the Mk.II had a Coffman starter, the door for the trolley accumulator was deleted. Not your fault, but the fault of Revell.

  2. Beautiful build and an excellent paintjob.
    Congratulations Tolga!

  3. Superb workmanship as always, Tolga...really good job all around.

  4. Your eye for detail is marvelous. Great looking Spit and great photography as well.

  5. Yet another great looking Spitfire, Tolga, thanks for sharing.

  6. I'm of the opinion that Revell tried to produce a reasonable model at reasonable price that offers the basics. Much as a Chevy owner buying a good car and then having it up graded with Cadillac parts and prices. Unfortunately, Revell contracted out to someone who didn't know Spitfires and they chose to use a Warbird for a reference. One that had many modifications other than what one would find on a Battle of Britain Spitfire. Regardless, Tolga stepped up to the batting plate and hit a home run. I just wonder if it would have been easier to have gotten a Hasegawa Mk V cut off the nose and graft the Revell kit.

Two thumbs up on this build and still standing the shadow of the Turkish Modeler.

    • I am not sure about cutting off Hasegawa s nose and use it with Revell s fuselage. I will not built another one from this. Working on old Hasegawa s kit sounds better.

      • I'm thinking along the lines of doing the reverse of what your thinking Tolga. Grafting the Revell nose onto the Hasegawa fuselage. Either way its a lot of work ...I always appreciate these kinds of builds because, they show the faults of the kit and offer solutions to what can be done to correct them. It looks like the after market people do too.

  7. Tolga, looks great, excellent looking example of an absolute classic airplane, very well done, all around !,

  8. Thanks for the comments.

  9. Am I even worthy to comment this beauty? Lot of work and great result. Spitfire as it's best.
