TBF Avenger at Midway

November 7, 2016 · in Diorama · · 13 · 2.7K

The Grumman (designated for aircraft manufactured by General Motors) was a torpedo bomber developed initially for the United States Navy and Marine Corps, and eventually used by several air and naval aviation services around the world.

The Avenger entered U.S. service in 1942, and first saw action during the Battle of Midway. Despite the loss of five of the six Avengers on its combat debut, it survived in service to become one of the outstanding torpedo bombers of World War II. Greatly modified after the war, it remained in use until the 1960s.

  2. Hey, Thomas...which kit did you use for this...? I'm guessing the scale is 72nd.. (using the bottles of MM paint for reference).

  3. Neat concept for a diorama and quite nicely done.

  4. Cracking job . Effective.

  5. Tom, I really like the explosion and splashes! If I had my druthers, I certainly wouldn't fly torpeckers. Scary stuff! Maybe Blimps...

  6. The scale is 1/72 I tried 1/48 but the hanger I used wasn.t strong enough

  7. Ummmm... that's actually a VT-84 TBM-3, which would have been on the Tokyo strikes in February 1945. The battle damage works for this idea also, since several Torpedo-84 Avengers caught a little hell over Tokyo during the raid.

  8. Tom I took a little poetic liscense about midway
