Tamiya, 1:48 scale Heinkel He-219A-7 “Uhu”
One of my later efforts, Tamiya's 1:48 scale Heinkel He-219. A really nice model and a good build. Good detail inside and out, and most importantly, the fit was excellent so that negated a WHOLE lot of sanding.
The cockpit is a unique arrangement where the nose weight is incorporated into the cockpit floor and front wheel well. You get a good look at that in picture number 3.
I built the model as an OOB project. The only additions were the nylon thread antenna and the paper seat belts. Some of the details on those, are seen in the cockpit pictures.
Decals are from the kit and are okay. They responded well to the usual setting solutions I use, Solvaset or Micro Sol/Set.
Overall impression was, she's a beauty to build and the only problem since then was figuring out how NOT to break off the radar antenna. At first, I tired to devise a system where I could remove or install the antenna as needed for traveling. I attempted to do this with drilling holes and using wire. It didn't work, and I needed to glue them all on anyway.
Just make sure they are all on straight. (Yes I know they look crooked in the picture Koppos, they aren't glued yet).
Weathering was by thinned oils and pastel chalk.
As some of you mentioned just how ugly this bird is, (I agree) it still looks cool in spite of that and I have a second one in the stash and may do that one with the blacked out undersides...someday 🙂
Thanks again everyone!

Thats how you make an otherwise ugly plane (just my opinion) look great.
Great job on that paint scheme, Frederick...nice detailing, weathering and photography as well. Ya Dun Gud...I vote 10.
Frederick... The Owl maybe ugly to some, but I really like the aircraft a lot and your model as well. Nice job.
Very nice Owl! I really like the paint work here, it looks great! Thanks for sharing her with us.

I actually think the Uhu is a good-looking plane, but your job on this kit makes it even better. Superb!
Ugly is in the eye of the beholder. I too find the Uhu a beautiful A/C but then, I am known to be a rather sick puppy... just ask BeeKay. Very fine job Fred, and don't let the Amityville horror bust yer jewels. 😉 Very nice build & finish. Cheers!
"Amityville Horror"? You MUST be talking about Koppos!
Thanks as well Stan. You'll be in NJ, April 6th?
