Great work so far, George! It's kinda interesting that the first time I saw Sea Fury in person was in Cuba 🙂 Actually two of them if I remember correctly - one in Havana and the other one at Playa Giron in the Bay of Pigs.

Thanks, Spiros (@fiveten), John (@johnb), and Sebastijan (@inflames). You are right. This has been a great kit, so I can't complain about a few places that need sanding, especially since the small problems could be my fault, or something I could have corrected before the glue dried. Very interesting, Sebastijan. If I recall correctly, the Cuban govt under Bautista bought some Sea Furies just before Castro took over. After the revolution, they became were taken over by Castro. They were used by Castro at the Bay of Pigs. Cuba is one of those places I would like to visit, but I don't think I will get the chance. Everyone have a great holiday.

a@gblair - remember that the wheel well of the Fury is in yellow zinc chromate (or the Brit equivalent). that's not in the kit painting instructions as I recall. landing gear and gear doors inside/out are lower surface color.

You're doing really well with this

Thanks, Tom (@tcinla), I appreciate your kind words. The instructions actually call for Humbrol 74, which is linen. I got a tin just to see what the color looked like, and discovered I could mix a close match using ModelAir US Interior Yellow lightened with white. I found a couple of photos online where the gear was an off-white color and the gear wells were the linen color, but 98% of the photos I found had the gear and wells painted in the linen color, so that's the plan. Thanks for stopping by, and have a great holiday.

I'm in that hurry-up-and-wait zone on this model. I glued the landing gear, then waited 24 hours to be sure I had a good joint. Then I glued the cowling to the fuselage, then clamped it because it has a really tight fit, so 24 more hours. I added some panels using Tamiya tape on the top of the fuselage in back of the cowling. It was impossible to sand this area without destroying the panels. I also added the ailerons. The horizontal tail surfaces had a really loose slot, so they were glued and taped to hold them in position. Getting close to painting time. Cheers everyone.

You are doing some great work here on your Sea Fury. I'm kind of in that same hurry up and wait zone with "LOU IV". I don't want to mess up the freshly sprayed Molotow chrome, so I have to let it dry considerably. I'll bet you are ready to start spraying it Dark Blue. This is really looking fantastic ! The exhaust and propeller look great right from the box.
Having a good picture of the actual plane helps a lot. Good catch with the canopy color call outs.

Hope you enjoyed your Christmas with your family, and that you have a Happy New Year too.

I think that’s the first time I’ve ever seen open exhaust pipes on an Airfix kit before. Very impressive Airfix. I note Airfix calls out for a white spinner whereas the photo show black. Great color scheme you selected @gblair.

Thanks, Louis (@lgardner). I will get to the blue paint in a day or two. I found a photo of the plane with white paint on the canopy, so I guess I can go either way. I have a 2-seat Hurricane and a P-51B on deck, but I am not sure which one will go first. Saw the new Top Gun movie over the weekend, so I am pumped to build an F-18. I was interested to discover that Tom Crews is an experienced pilot, and he owns and flies the P-51D shown in the movie. You might be interested in this:

Great progress, my friend @gblair! I liked a lot your caveman practices, good to show a model from time to time who the boss is. Beautiful exhausts! Bravo Airfix!

Love your chosen scheme and great catch on the canopy framing color. The spinner also is not white on the photo, probably black, or the same blue as the main color? Weird (for 2020s era) that Airfix missed this, unless, of course, the bird had white framing and spinner at some point.
