I can see extreme attention to detail, @airbum. Will use your technique with the nasking tape for my next filler session. Will lose much less detail this way.
    Cheers, Erik!

Thank you Spiros @fiveten. The masking before filler was a trick @klavs1972 told me about - it works wonders for me! Another post in a minute.

    Template and sanding

Sanding has taken place – template for canopy underway

Having sanded the filler, some areas that needs revisiting reveals themselves

    Not all bad I think.

    Head-on

The canopy gets an airing – or at least a template for the canopy. I have never tried gluing clear sheet in complex shapes before, and a template is made to see if it is possible to just cut a single piece and bend it. Well, not a total success, so it’s back to the drawing board. I still have the cast resin mentioned earlier, but that is very bad, and then there is a vac-formed item, but that does not fit the eduard fuselage. . . .

Back into the box with this one as I have a brainstorm or two

After 8 months some progress is finally under way on this build!

    Vacform it is

I decided to give the vac-formed canopy a try

But first some preparations. The edges on a G-12 are a bit higher, and some sort of fairing is needed

    Strip styrene and LqS added

And also installed guns – sometimes they flew without them, sometimes with

And the legs were positioned too as I usually do this early in my Eduard 109’s

And with that it is off to dry the LqS before adding some (a lot actually) more

Looks like you're going for a convertible version today... 😉

    Nice progress, my friend @airbum!
Cannot wait to see this twinseater beauty coming along!

Thank you gents. Actualy the rear canopy - by far the most difficult to replicate - cracked AFTER it had been cut to size. I will be trying a repair, but repairs to vacform canopies? absolutely new ground for me. (I should perhaps have gone for a Jugoslav version as they used the erla-haube for the rear cockpit) Othervise it will have to be a convertible as suggested 🙂

Now that is one peculiar 109 Erick, I totally missed out from the start and now just caught with your progress on this super rare 109. Never seen one of these variants before. Got the chute packed will sit in the back and watch.

    Messy!

I am trying to build the rear fairing with Liquified Styrene

I keep a batch of Liquified Styrene (LqS) on my desk, and this long-term 109 is getting a drop almost every evening these days to build up the fairing for the aft cockpit.

I had a piece of tape on the wall, and removed that one today

Then just for fun, I added the vac-formed hood to check progress.

Still some more to go, but right now the LqS is half-liquid and will need more time before next round. There are lots of other stuff to make on this one, but other projects also screams for attention.

It is off to the bottom of the stack with this one for now, and with the usual progress – or lack of it, it will once again be at the top in a week or two – stay tuned

Seems like LqS is becoming your main tool in modelling, Erik. @airbum
    Good achievement thusfare.

Wow, LqS to build upsome material?
Why not? Kudos to you, my friend @airbum! What a great idea!

Thanks guys. Yes my friends, John (@JohnB) and Spiros (@fiveten), LqS has a lot of advantages - but also some limits like the time it takes to harden.

    Slow progress

    - but progress none the less

While it has become clear that the mix I have is painfully slow to cure, it does so eventually

And a new layer can be added

I think I am about where some proper trimming is going to take place.

And if that is so when this latest round LqS has work-hardened, I will finally get to add all the last stuff – like the cooler, radiators, tailfeathers and stuff.

Oh yes – and I have to decide on what to do in terms of markings! The next two-seater is in the planning stages. I can say as much as it is going to have stars – stay tuned on the group to be the first to check that one out. . .

    Great done, Erik @airbum
How did you apply that LqS, are you using a toothpick?
I know there are liquids around to make paint dry faster, maybe this can be used for LqS as well.
Here in the Netherlands it's being available as Siccative.
