Glad to see you chose wings unfolded, If you chose the wings closed, it would be like a sitting duck. The improvements you have made to the interior of the fuselage greatly increase the realism of the interior. Even if some of them do not appear at the end, you can still photograph them before the fuselage closes so that you can always see them.

Thanks all for the positive feedback, makes me even want to try harder, which I definitely will do.
Just a small update on the final steps of the interior before covering it with the fuselage parts.
Did some scratch building on the seatbelts, used the provided decal (three actually) for the instrument panel and placed the anchor. Next I dry fitted the side walls and seems to fit quite well.
This weekend I will have a look in what is the best way to start the rigging.

Looking sharp! I only now noticed this WIP. I don’t have the kit but that doesn’t take the fun of looking at a great model being built. I do like the improvements you made John, very well made and definitely raising the bar. Well done, look forward for more

You better watch out, @johnb - your excellent work here may yet inspire me to pull out my half-done project of this great kit and shove it off the SoD. 🙂

Great work John, this is great definition and the whole interior is looking first class! Your instruments are particularly well executed and would ask you to share your technique. Looking forward to the next update!

Great to check in on your journey towards those very nice finished builds of yours. The interior looks very nice, and, at least in my humble opinion, you have struck the right finish.

Interior looks great, John (@johnb). I particularly like the way you handled the instrument panel. The decals look just as good, or better, as an Eduard set. Well done!

The interior does indeed look terrific John. Did you scratch build the anchor and that spool of rope or did that come with the kit?

Great work so far, John. I am just catching up on this build now and am very impressed. I like the way you overcame all those ejector pin flaws and cleaned up the interior completely. Airfix has really produced some fine detail in this model and you are getting the most out of it. This is an excellent example of how to build a model to perfection OOB (or nearly so, since you added the control cables and seat belts - which I think is actually OK for OOB in contest rules). The painting and decaling of the interior is really effective and rivals photo-etch for precision - it probably looks even better with the naked eye as opposed to zoom close up. I am looking forward to seeing those 276 Squadron markings - the FAA colors are really very harmonious, particularly the contrast of the lighter undersides and the dark topside camo.

@holzhamer, @fiveten, @airbum, @gblair, @mvtb, Thanks a lot for the generous words, this definitely keeps me motivated to get the most out of this kit.
@tcinla, Really hope that I can convince you to get your kit away from the SoD. It would be a pity to not get this one build.
@adrianstarling, Work on the instrument panel was not that complex. The IP part did have quite some details on it but to much height diffence to simply put the decals on. Therefore I polished this part till all details had the same height but still representing a 3D panel. After I applied the decals I used decal softener to get it nicely formed around the details.
@eb801, Luckely the spool and anchor came with the kit. I think my scratch building expertise is not sufficient to get it done like that.
@coling, The scheme of 276 is not the easiest I guess, the top cover of the engine and the floats do have camouflage as well and I’m not sure yet how to easily apply that.

    Update in a minute

This weekend my first steps into rigging.
After I closed up the fuselage, hiding all the details, I started to prepare the first parts for rigging. Good to have pictures taken of the interior.

Idea is to first get the floats connected to the lower part of the underwing. Therefore I drilled holes in underwing and top part of the float. Rigging wire, fishing rod of 0.18mm, is attached to the float using CA glue and will eventually be connected to the lower part of the underwing.

To make my life a bit easier I treated myself with a maskset for the transparant parts. First time I ordered one of these, I'm curious about quality.

I also did a bit of research to get the correct colors for the chosen scheme. Eventually I found the following site which Ifound very helpful. Below the link, maybe interesting or already known for some of you.

Hope to show some more rigging results in a couple of days.

@johnb - you will love those pre-cut masks for this model! In fact, the thought of masking that canopy may be one of the things that slowed/stopped progress on mine.

    Looking great, my friend @johnb!
    Nice job on the rigging!
Thanks for the site info; I will definitely make good use of it!
