Hey, guess who the most famous Walrus pilot was (that nobody knew flew a Walrus)?

    A quote will answer:

"...earlier, when I had been flying my Walrus, I'd say to myself, 'this flying is going to help my acting if I ever get back to it.' Learning to fly an aircraft effectively, you need poise, a sense of balance and utmost mental coordination. I was getting quite mischievous and daring, but always with a necessary coolness in the head, and I was the only one in my squadron ever to roll a Lysander... before they plucked me out of the sky for the heaven-sent Henry V."

John, I’ve found that Montex quality varies. Some perform really well, others just won’t glue to round surfaces. Hope those fall under the first category 😉

Thanks for posting that "model shade" link, John. First time I've heard of it. Looks very useful.

John, the Montex masks are not the best - at least not for curved surfaces. I do think you should be relatively safe, just remember to check and doublecheck before each layer of paint and they should work just fine on your Walrus.

Good start on the rigging, John (@johnb). The vinyl used in Montex masks is a lot different than the thin tape used by Eduard and others. It is a little "stretchy" when you apply it, but usually fits fine. I find the vinyl is a little more difficult to take off after you have painted. I used Montex on my recently completed Vampire and the masks worked well.

@tcinla, @holzhamer, @airbum, @gblair, Thanks all. Luckily the canopy is mainly consisting of square shaped windows. So basically that should be doable.

@fiveten, Thanks my friend. The rigging is consuming quite some time. But I have the feeling that I’m getting more comfortable with the process.

    Next update coming up,

After some cleanup the floats with their rigging are ready to be connected to the struts of the underwing. Since I wanted to have the rigging connected to the inside of the underwing, I had to cut off the struts because they are intended to go all the way through the completely assembled underwing.

Also the nacelle has been constructed and rigging is applied, some cleanup to be done as well.

Still need to figure out however how to proceed with the painting. The chosen scheme has the pattern on top of the floats and nacelle as well. If glued then this cannot be applied anymore.

Guess the best approach will be to first paint everything and then gently try to glue everything together.

Beautiful work on a very delicate task, John. This is the kind of modelling challenge that requires some careful planning as well as meticulous work with tools. You have also taken some excellent photos to illustrate the process. Watching with great interest.

I agree with Collin, all those wires are a nightmarish vision to me. Splendid work

Yep, first paint and then attach in your case.
Looking forward to your amazing job!

Great work, buddy (@johnb). Working with wires makes my hands shake and my head ache, but you obviously have the technique perfected.
