Tamiya lacquer white airbrushed overTamiya white spray bomb primer. Tamiya paints make spraying white easy. Medium Green and OD enamels tomorrow.

It’s been a pleasure watching your B-25 come together, John. It really does look like a great kit. I’m glad Tamiya starting putting their lacquers in bottles. No more decanting!

I sprayed some Xtracolor OD today. I was planning on using Silly Putty wave masks but didn’t think they would last long in today’s heat. I airbrush outside and today’s high is supposed to be 101F. The Talon airbrush dials down good enough to do a 1/72 field applied scheme like this free hand, albeit with a little overspray. I’ll tighten that up with some Tamiya white acrylic after I spray the medium green splotches and some faded OD on the fabric areas tommorow.

After looking up photos of these Tampa based 23rd ASW Sq. a/c, it becomes apparent that the deicing boots were removed and the bare metal underneath was sprayed with white. Bottom line is that I’ll use the Tamiya acrylic to wrap the white around the leading edges a little.

One of the numerous things that I appreciate about Airfix is the fact that they often choose unusual schemes for their kits. This one is no exception and looks great over its natural environment in the skies over the Gulf of Mexico!

Nice work on this! I'm not a 1/72 guy but seeing you build this kit makes me start to think that this one might be worth a try. Awesome work so far

Looking good! Can't believe you have to paint outside in 100+ heat!

Thanks, David. I pretty much abandoned 1/72 in the early ‘90s. I picked up the new Airfix Whitley and Blenheim in 2015 and really enjoyed them. After doing the 1/72 Victor, I pretty much decided that 1/72 was viable again for large planes. I’ve built 11 of these new tool Airfix multi engine kits so far and think the Wellington is the best. All are good but the interior in that one really stands out.

Faded the fabric areas with Xtracolor OD cut with a little light gray and a couple drops of yellow. That’s all for today.

The paintwork is really amazing, John @j-healy
When the heat gets too much you have at least a swimmingpool and the sea nearby it seems.

This is one of my favorite paint schemes on B-25s, John (@j-healy). I have reached the same conclusion about 1/72 models. I have gotten rid of most of my fighter-sized models, but the bombers are still in the build queue. The temperature is really starting to be a concern here in central Texas. We have had several continuous weeks where the daily temp is over 100, and most days over 105. The good news in the garage is that the paint dries quickly. The bad news is that I am not sure what is going on with the kits I have stored in the garage.

The basic scheme is finished. After studying photos of the plane and others like it online, I chose to deviate from the Airfix paint guide. It’s clear that white was sprayed up and over the leading edges after the deicing boots were removed. I also conclusively proved that you can successfully spray Xtracolor and Humbrol enamels and Tamiya lacquer and acrylic paints in 100+ temps! Mobile might set a record of 105 today. Time for a swim.
