Your well organized production facility seems to run at full speed, Louis @lgardner
    Excellent progress.

Now thinking of getting the F-6D overtrees to build 'Snooks 5th' using the BFC 103 decals. Either Option A with no name and solid black 66 or the shown Option B. Decisions right?

    These are looking good @lgardner.

As to "Snooks 6th" - that was an airplane painted up for publicity after Shomo got the MoH. Since the reporters and photographers were expected to know nothing about P-51s/F-6Ds, they just grabbed the first available airplane, It is definitely a P-51D-20 and not an F-6D. I think this was finally discovered by the "hex-spurtz" 25-30 years ago when one of them committed the revolutionary act of actually looking at the photos.

As you guys know USAF is not my playground, far from it, but as you also may be aware Eduard has “the flying undertaker” as their cover art for the D-20 weekend box, which I am using to build the Iwo machine “ The Boll Weevil”.

Most of my work has been focused on the wings and UC well. After God knows that many putty/sanding sessions

I am now 98% pleased with the cover of the panel lines and attached the UC well on the two planes that will stand on their feet…errr wheels that is.
Unlike Louis experience with the gun part, those two wings ended up having a slight step on the underside of that parts
unlike the fully closed UC wing, where the well is absent
This gap persisted even after some rough sanding on the upper part of the UC well, in order to get a better fit of the wings and the MG slot.

One detail that had eluded me until this stage is that Eduard first edition of the Mustang (Royal edition box) lacks the back wall of the flaps seen on my two most recent boxes
Wonder if that has any implication in the fit of the flap later on…shall see.

Excellent progress and awesome looks, my friend @holzhamer! Eduard kits are in general excellent but also at places idiosyncratic. Looking forward to your next steps!

    Indeed so Spiros! @fiveten
They have very little tolerance in fit generally, and this seems to be the issue for me. Obviously I can’t be excepted of poor craft while glueing parts 😉

As all of us know, no kit is perfect. As much I consider Eduard producing some of the best kits out there, they do make a few things quite fiddly and overly complicated, don't they? All looking good here, Pedro @holzhamer and Louis @lgardner.

    Looking good here @holzhamer.

As you now know, fitting parts can be "problematic. After my first Eduard P-51D, I became aware of that fit problem with the gun ports. I find that if I fit the part without glue, and get it positioned right overall, and then run liquid glue around it to set up through capillary action, you can get those parts to fit properly. A "fiddly" response to a "fiddly" problem.

Great work, Pedro (@holzhamer). I am sure all of this work now will pay off later. My last two or three models seem to have had more than their share of the fill, sand, check, repeat cycles. Your wing looks great in any case. Looking forward to the rest.

You are doing some great work here, Pedro @holzhamer
Seems like you are tackling those imperfections very nicely.

I chose to glue the gun ports part to the upper half of the wing first, and doing a dry run right after shows all fit nice and even, problem came when the wheel well was added, it “expanded” the thickness of the wing a bit I guess.
Next time I’ll be trying your hint Tom, thanks!

And thanks for your comments also @gblair @johnb

It's been a while since I have done anything to these Mustangs. I was preoccupied with working on the ICM Ki-21 Sally. Now that it has been completed, I will focus on these Mustang builds, and also be working on the Boyington Corsairs.

I did manage to partially assemble the wing for the Eduard F6D photo recon Mustang, plus I sourced as set of decals / masks that will allow me to mark it as Shomo's Medal of Honor aircraft, "Snooks 5th".

The wing gun opening has not been installed yet, so I will try Tom's method to see how it works.

As always comments are encouraged. Thanks for stopping by !

Glad to see the Mustangs moving again, Louis (@lgardner). I had almost forgotten about this build when you started the Sally.
