Thanks, Eric, @eb801 that was some interesting and informative information. I can see some of the issues in the engine and propeller as well as the cowl issues I noticed. Funny thing is by some accounts it seems the kit is a disaster, being just an upgraded copy of the Monogram kit, with more errors. Whether that is true or not, I don't believe anyone will mistake my model for anything other than a P-61 when I put it on the display table. I might incorporate the actuating rods, on the cowl flaps though. We will see.

That's why my GWH P-61A kit still sits in the box un-built with gobs of correction accessories I purchased back then. Along time ago I did a Monogram vs GWH parts comparison on Modeling Madness. I also compared Modelshack cowlings which I didn't care for. Not sure if Modelshack is still around as I couldn't find it online.

Eric, @eb801 that is a great article. I also followed the link in the article to Scott Van Aken's build. It looks like he really enjoyed it. I am thinking I will too!

Walt - there's also my review of the kit. The one thing I found it really needed was the longer nosewheel leg - to the point I modified the kit leg correctly and sent it to Ross at SAC for him to make a metal leg.

A couple more comments about these GWH Black Widow kits. i have the unboxed initial P-61A release with all those mistakes and the last recent version, the "Last Shootdown" Lady in the Dark P-61B-2 but I think GWH means the "late" version. I compared the two kits and I can tell you GWH did make a lot of corrections. The props have been corrected but unfortunately, not the cowlings or the cowl flaps. (Victor and Eduard replacements are worth looking into.) The canopy has been corrected with a new sprue of clear parts. Also a new fuselage replacement sprue with the proper crank case engine covers and magnetos. These corrections were actually done in time for GWH's 2012 release of the P-61A "Glass Nose" kit with the turret. (Update: upon further examination, GWH did indeed correct the cowling ring opening.)

Those were great articles, my friends @eb801 and @tcinla!
Having built the "Lady in the dark", I still have a Monogram (Revell rebox) unbuilt, will possibly build it in "day" camo?

Tom, @tcinla, thanks for the additional info and your great review of the kit. Yours turned out nice, and in the end I have what I have and will make the best of it. I am fortunate due to a friend here on this site, Thanks @tom-bebout, I have a complete Monogram P-61 kit to help fill in with some of the kits short comings.

Thanks so much for the photo of the cowling flaps, Walt B @luftwaffe-birdman. That was really helpful for me last night, dealing with a similar problem in the H-K B-17 flaps. 48 little plastic squares cut and glued!

Well despite the delay in posting, I have been working on things. The engines are little mini-kits in themselves. Each consisting of nine parts including one fret of brittle photo-etch. They actually look pretty good, it's just a shame how much you can't see of them once installed into the nacelle. I tried them on one of the booms, and have to say the fit of everything was stellar.

Great work Walt, I am really enjoying your fine detailing and the radials are a work of art! I am eagerly looking forward to your next post!

Those radials are amazing, Walt B @luftwaffe-birdman!
Indeed, pity you can see only a part of them, once installed.

    Those engines look fantastic, Walt
You almost want to leave the nacelles off, just to show those the great work you did on the engines.
