    And 76 it is!

    - farbton 76 that is

I had time for a few rounds in the airbrush booth this morning, and one that got a once-over was this one.

The yellow overspray in certain areas is not willing to give up easily, and one more round of 76 will be needed.

The locations of the areas to be painted meant that I had to use the wing to hold on to as I haven’t glued the legs in place on the Zvezdas

The leverage simply meant that a “crack” was heard. I think it is only the panel under the wing that has given in, so that will need to be forced open when the paint has dried to check and re-glue before the second round of 76.

With painting in progress I feel like I am making a lot of progress on a few of my 109’s. As a consequence of that I am now starting to consider what to start up next (I know, I know. . . - I have a few that are idle right now, but I like to have a bunch of models in progress at any one time

Paint looks nice, just a minor setback on the wing, Erik.
For sure you will get that fixed.
What kind of material did you use to cover the wheel wells?

No worries on your wing, Erik (@airbum). If a seam didn't open up somewhere, then no harm, no foul. When I hear creaks and cracks, it is a toss up if it is the plastic or my joints.

    Thanks guys.

John (@JohnB), I use the white tacky stuff. I think it has been mentioned by someone earlier, in Denmark we call it "Teachers Gum", and it is sold in office supply stores as a means to hold a poster / paper in place temporarily. Actually I think Spiros was able to tell us the correct name in one of his recent builds. It is the white sticky stuff that is most often used for rolling a "sausage" to mask for a blurred demarkation line in a camo paintwork. It is a bit hard to get out, but it does eventually come out - just get a lot out by a cocktailstick, and then use a blob to tap the areas where the stuff it still present.

George (@gblair) the hatch actually did break open along both long lines, but no worries - it will come loose as it was glued bu tamiya, and that stuff really does not bond/melt Zvezda plastic very well. (you can see the crack in the last picture)

    Great looking build Erik.
Always one of my fears, hearing a 'crack' or a 'snap' while handling a model. But it looks like the repair work is in good hands.

    Force will be used

The crack described last time gets some attention

As suspected it was a part of the panel that had given up its connection to the wing

It was easy to open the front part, but the force was strong with the rear. I smeared some Contacta into the opening and added a piece of tape to make it behave till the glue sets.

next up may be after another layer, masking and a color on the top. Stay tuned to find out

Farbton 76 looks nice, my friend @airbum!

I also frequently hear those nasty "cracks" upon handling a model, wishing it will be some phantom inner seam that just cracked, without further complications...

Understandably, that rarely is the case...

Well, there's nothing that cannot be repaired, and i can see your mishap was relatively easy to remedy.

As for the masking material that our friend John @johnb mentioned, it is Uhu Patafix. This material was known as Blue Tac back in 1990 or so, that's why some strange guys (yours truly included) call it "tac" sometimes. John used this material to his Defiant, so, he is aware of it!

By the way, it's this one, possibly/probably it being the same in Denmark and Holland!

    Your 109 looks amazing!

As for your next projects, the only thing we are sure of, is the fact that you are going to amaze us, as usual, with your subject choice(s) and execution!

Spiros, it is the stuff you depicted allright, only in Denmark it is marketed by a local officesupply firm.

    Thanks @fiveten

Thanks for adding this information Spiros @fiveten

After Erik's @airbum explanation, I understood that this was indeed done with the aid of patafix.

Seems like this material is used a lot.

For sure it is very helpful in a lot of circumstances.

In the Netherlands you can buy this under brand of Bison.

It is indeed a great little helper John. I think on the next few builds I might use tape in the center and just "patafix" along the edges.

My friends Erik @airbum and John @johnb:
I've used (I am using! a combination of patafix at the borders and tape at the center and works great.
Only "problem" is that patafix sticks at the tape and cannot all be detached from it, so an amount of patafix will be lost (not very much).

    Once more!

Progress was not as quick as predicted

But at least I managed to get another coat of 76 on after the repairs.

Well this time the yellow seems to have disappeared from the places where it showed through.

And thus, next up might once again be some masked and first top color added – stay tuned

Just caught up with your latest build, Erik. Is this your 13th 109 for the year? Amazing! Obviously you're far from bored with Messerschmitts.

Patafix does come in handy for many things in addition to masking off cameo. It's sold under that yellow UHU label here in the States.
    Happy Holidays!
