A-M 1/48 SBD-4 Dauntless

January 1, 2013 · in Aviation · · 1 · 2.5K

One of the last releases by "real" was the SBD-4, which differs from the SBD-3 primarily by having the same prop as the SBD-5, and was also provided with these decals to do a VS-41 from the Ranger during Operation Torch.

I'm still a believer that the SBD series Accurate Miniatures released in the late 1990s are among the best plastic kits ever released. You never find aftermarket items for them other than decals because there was nothing else needed. Assemble the kit per the instructions and you have an excellent model. Perhaps the best compliment the series ever got was the fact that scaled them up part for part to create their SBDs, and the folks who have created the kits did the exact same.

The model was painted with Gunze-Sangyo "Blue-Grey" and "Light Gull Grey," pre-shaded for "depth" and "post shaded" for fading.
