Tamiya 1/48th Do-335 Defense of the Reich

May 25, 2013 · in Aviation · · 10 · 2.6K

As a follow up to my Do-335 I built another one of these model kits. This time I thought I would do it up as a defender of the Reich in the last days of the war.

I added drop tanks and also scratch built the boarding ladder. I thought it would make an interesting addition to the model. The real ladder folds up and fits into that little compartment under the wing root.

The cockpit was built using only what was supplied in the kit, except for the set of Eduard seat harnesses. These kits are just incredible, when you put them all together. It was fun, and headache free.

I don't have any more of these in my stash but would build another one of them any time.

  1. Good lookin' build, Walt...the kit, the base, the pics - I like 'em all.

  2. WOW ,superb job, this kind of work is what makes me strive to improve. This has got to be one of the ugliest war planes ever but you've made it look amazing, fantastic base as well. Thanks for showing.

  3. Walt...Great looking Arrow. That was one big and fast aircraft for its time. I always wanted to build it as a "What if" racer.. still might someday. I sure like the photos as well. Nice work.

  4. Beautiful work, Walt!

  5. Nice looking Model, smoothly done. Agree Tamiyas are the bomb, always nice to build one and take a break from the "Others".

  6. outstanding stunning beautifull absolutely perfect everything about it you are truly a master I bow to this one

  7. Walt, Very cool subject and superb finish as usual. The 335 looks great with the Reich's defense band and the drop tanks are a nice addition to the model too. All you need now is a B-2 (wing cannon equipped) in your collection…

  9. It's inspirational, superp modelling. But, why do German war machines always look the business?

It is true, the German stuff does look like it was purpose built and ready to fight. The variety of paint schemes and markings also makes for more interesting builds. That's also the reason I like the American bombers and P-47 and P-40 fighters. I am just finishing up the B-25 'Dirty Dora'. While it is just OD the markings are colorful and those raider B-25's definitely look the menacing part.
