Academy 1/72 P-51B Mustang
My own D-Day Group Build contribution (an RAF Mustang Mk. III) suffered serious production delays, but at least I can contibute to the Anniversary celebration with some freshly taken photos of one of my older models.
This is a 1/72 Academy P-51B Mustang together with a 1/72 Jeep from the same company. Built a while ago, it still is one of my favorites.
Compared with the Academy Mustang kit, their Jeep (part of a kit containing also a Kubelwagen and a Kettenkrad) is only moderately accurate, but at the time it was about the only game in town. I feel it still makes a nice combo with the aircraft.
The depicted aircraft is a blue-nose Mustang of 352th Fighter Group, 8th U.S. Army Air Force, Bodney, Norfolk. Colouring is the standard Olive Drab upper with Neutral Gray under camouflage. The aircraft carried a full set of D-Day stripes, which necessitated repositioning of the aircraft letter "S" on the nose.
oh yes...reminds me of heller bust...nice wear and tear too
That's true. The first Heller Bust was BuNo 36704, meaning the same(?) production batch.
Martin,
Nice job on this little Mustang. The 352nd FG is one of my favorites. Thanks!
I know of which you speak regarding procrastination (self-imposed or otherwise). I was planning on replicating some water for my LST and 48th Sherman, but only finished the two kits without a diorama involved. And having posted both not that long ago, I hesitated to repost them merely to "join in". Guess I shoulda waited and posted 'em both now, huh?
Your 72nd scale contribution is outstandingly detailed for that scale - too small for me, though. And your photography is top-notch. Perhaps we can both get it gear and enter the next group endeavor...whatever/whenever that may be. Thanks again to you and your 'staff' for all you do to keep this site up n' runnin'.
I'm afraid that I'm just generally a slow builder. Enjoying it all the same, though 🙂
I'm sure you have a full plate over there & modeling time is probably scarce.
I believe some people say it is the thought that counts.
BTW, those a nice models your sharing.
Martin,
Very, very nice. I like the scheme with the "S:" moved forward. I have not seen this before. A nice touch with the Jeep. I agree with Al, your time must be scarce but I for one am very thankful that you started iModeler. Your are doing a fabulous job. Thank you.
These 1/72 models just keep getting better. It's hard to tell them from their bigger (1/48) brothers. Great job !
Nice looking 'B', Martin.
Two days ago, the MoD released rare aerial photos of D-Day landings, which included these Mustangs, albeit in RAF livery.

Very nice for 1/72 scale.Like the pictures too.
Very neat models, Martin, and very apt for D-Day I'd also like to add my thanks for this site, please keep up the good work.
Nice one Martin, hard to think that is only 1/72 scale.
Well done sir.
Great Mustang whatever the scale Martin. Is the Tamiya build unsalvageable or will it reappear in due course?
Thanks everyone for good comments. The Tamiya build is still going on, just put aside during the last month or so. I still intend to finish it and will be posting my WIP here at iModeler.
A couple of nice builds there boss! Sorry I could not contribute. My equipment is in storage at present.
Very nice build - love the look of the Blue Nose with the OD camouflage.
Hello. Great build! Did You use aftermarket decals?
