1/48 Supermarine Spitfire Mk.I
This is Tamiya's 1/48 scale kit that I purchased at a show several years ago. Had previously done the Revell kit but was never quite satisfied with how it looked, so I thought I would try Tamiya. Really went together quite well only thing I added was an Ultracast seat with the belts. Used nylon threat for the antenna, kit decals representing an A/C from No. 610 Squadron, and Tamiya as well as Model Master paints. Word has it that the Airfix kit is even better so may have to try it as well. BTY, I just couldn't help myself and I had to highlight the Dunlop logo on the tires, too good to pass up.
Nicely done Tom, well finished mate.
They are nice kits, the wife built the 1/72 scale version.
Well done sir.
You have a wife that builds as well. Bravo!
Great job.
Nice work.
Yet another nice looking Spitfire!
Looks great, Tom!
Despite what the anal retentive rivet counters say, the Tamiya Spitfire Mk.I is one of the best early marque Spitfires ever produced and you definitely did her justice. Very nice work indeed.
Thanks Seamus, I adhere to the following, does it look like the real thing and was it fun to build? If both are yes then it was worth the effort. .
Yes. The Revell kit, on the other hand, has more a Mk IIa engine cowling and strangely shaped Rotol prop and spinner, and even more so in the Pegasus snap-together kit copied from the Revell kit. Revell (and Pegasus) omitted the scalloped fairings at the rear of the main wings, which - IIRC - are a bit short in span.
Tom,
Excellent work. The Spit is one of those planes I never tire looking at. Yours is a joy to behold.
Thanks Frank, always admired the models you've posted on this site.
Nicely finished and photographed, Tom...I like it! 🙂
You did a fantastic job on this classic kit of the most iconic aircraft ever. Well done indeed!
I Just Love the Spitfire, and this is a fine example, nice build Tom.
Nice build*
But the colors are a bit off...
P.k
Could be the lighting that is throwing the colors off a bit.
Seamus I've been known to be off color on occasion. That's probably the reason.
Yes Tom, I've built this one a good few years back, great kit, yours looks superb, I had a bit of silvering with my decals but my fault, put them straight onto the matt paint. But a good kit, the Airfix one must be impressive to be able to match up.
Amazing build, Tom. Its still a lovely kit, remembering the good times, i had, building this one.
You can t have too many Spits
