Airfix 1/48 Seafire XVII
Hi everyone, been a while since I posted anything.
This is one of my latest projects, one of a production line of varying marks of Spit and Seafire in 1/48. So far this year I have built an Eduard Mk9, this one, an Airfix Mk22 and am currently on with an Airfix Seafire Mk47. I will post them all in due course, and am planning a bit of a special one with the Mk9, as it has a very interesting back story to it.
Anyway, on this kit, it is actually one I bought in the toy department at Harrods, in London, just to say I had bought something there!
It is a simple kit and goes together really well, and whilst the panel lines are quite prominent, they do facilitate good washing, which adds interest to the model. I used some aftermarket, in an Eduard colour etch cockpit, QB exhausts and seat and SAC u/c legs. All of which enhance an already impressive model. There are two marking options, the primary one being mainly Extra Dark Sea Grey finish, but I finished mine in other scheme in the kit, with majorly sky and EDSG top surfaces, which is a scheme I love! The aircraft in question was from a training squadron, based at RNAS Fulham, in Oxfordshire, England, which is about 20 miles from where I live.
I,ve really enjoyed this and the other Spits, although I,m running a bit dry on them now! Will get them posted soon, but for now, hope you like this one.
Very nice work, Ian...I gotta break down and get me one of those "new" Airfix kits.
Nice job Ian, I too like the color scheme you chose for this Spit. It just looks right.
This colour scheme really suits the graceful lines of the Seafire, excellent choice, Ian. It's weird that the RNAS had a training base about as far as you can get from the sea in England...
Nice job. 🙂
Good looking Seafire! I also like the scheme - glad you selected it. I need a Seafire in my collection... don't have one in the stash just yet!
Beautiful Seafire .
mine is on hold on stash .
