1/72 F-4J/ tribute, group build
This is Monograms 1/72 F-4J, of VF-31 in 1976. I used aeromaster , homemade, and spare decals to represent the one I was assigned as plane captain . Standard load of missiles, and a blivet [used to carry the aircrew's luggage on cross country hops. The kit needed a lot of filler and was slightly warp around the cockpit.
The aircrew names are real - LT Robert Hutchison- Line Div. Division officer and LTJG Michael Collins, They were lost in The Med.when their F-4 crashed .Their names were not on this a/c, I don't know which one they were in when they were lost. Both are in the last photo, Don't look to long at the close-ups you'll see my gaffs, Thanks for looking
Nice job Robert! I was 11 in 1976 and built an Airfix F-4J in VF-31 markings. It was the centerpiece of my collection, maybe it was yours?
I built airfix kit in high school, it had decals for VF-31 and VF-74, I ended serving in both squadrons. cue Twilight Zone music.
excellent job Robert, these models with back stories are the most meaningful
