Tamiya 1/72 scale P-47D
Pilot: Lt. Robert E. Wagner 9th AF 510th FS – 405th FG. St. Dizier France 1944.
I actually do build other aircraft, but P-47s are just so much fun, especially when the kits are this nice !
For this build, I used Alclad Dura aluminum, highlighted with MM metalizer, steel and aluminum on the panels and the flaps. A dark wash into the panels lines and some exhaust staining was also applied.
I added some Eduard PE seatbelts and used small gauge wire to make the fuel lines on the drop tank. The sway bar braces on the bomb racks were built using the same small gauge wire and white glue to make the little end caps. The decals are from “Kits World”.
I had some issues photographing this model. I found the reflection off the bare metal paint scheme can be a real problem, I had to pay special attention to the angles on every position. I also wrestled with a lot of background colors to get a good contrast that would play well with shinny finish.
Enjoy !

Good to hear from you, and your comment does have some merit as it seems 1/72 scale and even 1/48 are getting smaller. Could be why the bigger scales are getting popular as we get older.
