And the winner is……. the Nord 2501 Noratlas

August 20, 2017 · in Aviation · · 16 · 2K

Well first of all let me just thank everyone who took part in this little venture, I only did it for fun and I think it was just that so thanks again to all the boys who voted.

You might be interested to know that it was actually a tie with four votes for the and four votes for the EE Lightning so I made the final choice and as there are plenty of Lightning's and (correct me if I'm wrong ) no Noratlas's here on iModeler that's the one I went for.in second place was the Seafire with three votes which didn't surprise me and the P26 Peashooter which did surprise me, the Vospers were popular getting one for the Airfix ,one for the Revell and one unspecified so three overall, another surprise was that the Spitfire 22/24 and the Skyhawk attracted no votes at all -C'mon guys who doesn't love a scooter ?

Anyhow there it is I will be starting the Noratlas once I've tidied up the man cave ,I tend to get everything put in it's place and all the flat surfaces in there wiped over with a damp cloth to shift the dust from the last project and then start in a nice tidy environment ready to mess it all up again.

You may be able to see in the last pic that the decal sheet is well and truly fooked but I wasn't worried because I always intended to build an Israeli version using the decal sheet from Isradecal however it seems that that sheet in is discontinued and is only available in 1/48 so if anyone can help with either that decal option or any other please let me know ,paint and decals are a long way off but I will get there eventually also any information on colour schemes Israeli or otherwise would be a help.

Cheers N.

  1. You're right, Neil...don't think I've seen one of these built (here or anywhere else for that matter). Kinda puts me in mind of the C-119 "Flying Boxcar". I've got some of those Isradecal Israeli markings in 48th scale if you think they'll work. Lookin' forward to your build.

  2. Looking forward to the build Neil

  3. Great choice, Neil. I've never seen one of those built, and haven't seen the kit anywhere for about 20 years. Looks interesting, that Portuguese option begs some research on my part. Hmmm, Angola, '70s...

  4. Looks like you have yourself a project, Neil! Looking forward to seeing her done. Unusual subject, don' think I've ever seen one of those...

  5. Neil, this will be the second one I'll seen built. I always liked Hellers choice of subjects, some really oddball aircraft, to a Yank. Particularly their Musee series of WW II FAF aircraft, LeO 451, Bloch 210.

  6. The quality of the moulding looks great, I've never built a Heller kit before.
    Cheers N.

  7. Hello Neil,
The Israeli marking will be a problem. if not available, this could be a good "second choice"

1/72 scale decals for German Luftwaffe Noratlas. Article number 72053.

  8. I'm really glad it's the Noratlas (I voted for it!). I loved the kit for it's marking options, but hadn't really looked over the decals too carefully, and now I'm a bit afraid of what I might find! I am pretty good at grabbing a bunch of different decal sets for the right "country" and ending up with a reasonable set of markings. 🙂 I look forward to how you solve for the decals...

  9. Hey Greg,if I'm honest I wanted the Noratlas to be chosen as well, maybe we could do a mini group build, up to now the only decal option I've found is a Luftwaffe version and I don't normally do German stuff but it might well have to be that unless I can find some decent images of an Israeli version and then piece something together, for now though paint and decals are a way off.
    Cheers for now N.

  10. Was I the only person who voted for the F-117? Us youngsters like the modern stuff you see!

  11. Yep ,you was the only one, thanks for taking part Rich.
