SE.5a Eduard 1:48

August 6, 2018 · in Aviation · · 38 · 4.5K

Hello, everyone. Here is my latest project, I was busy with for the last five months. I removed the stitches off the ribs (they were too heavy for my taste) and rescribed the fuselage door behind the cockpit. Wheels, guns, propeller and radiator are from Brassin sets and they are excellent.
Hope you like it.
Regards, Igor

  1. Wonderful model of an iconic airplane. Love it

  2. Wow, I really like that one.

  3. Not my forte, but an extremely nice build, my friend.

  4. Outstanding model. I love the realistic rigging, especially the double flying wires. The weathered paint is simply spectacular. Great job!

  5. Superb modelling!

  6. Well done all around, Igor. I hope I do my Wingnuts Wings SE.5 justice as you've done with this one.

  7. Igor, the best compliment I can give about your spectacular SE.5 is that it could pass by a WnW model on a cover of hobby magazine. Just all round superb.
May I ask what painting technique and colours/oils etc, did you used on the lower clear doppe surfaces?

    • Hello, Pedro. I usually use Gunze Mr.Color and Mr.Paint (MRP) colors for wing undersides (Sail color C-45), then I add some washes where needed. Final touch is done with MIG pigments in order to break the monotony of the clear doppe surfaces. It is time consuming work, but result can be realy rewarding.

  8. Beautiful build. Well done!

  9. Breathtaking. Five months at it really shows. Should be a candidate for the monthly winner.

  10. Some strong work. Worthy of being "Model of the Month" or at least a very good candidate for being.

    Two thumbs up.

    Keep up the good work.

    Igor

  11. That’s the best 1/48 WW1 model I’ve ever seen. Well done, Igor.

  12. Great result! Just goes to show you don’t need to spend a fortune on WnW kits to get a great result; these kits retail for around £20...

    • Actually Rob, for me, Eduard is a WnW in 1:48 scale. And it's much more wallet friendly.
      Igor

      • Yes, there are some ‘sleeper’ manufacturers who produce good quality models and without much fanfare. I know Eduard isn’t exactly unknown, but most people wouldn’t know if they are a cut-above Roden, for example, or merely more of the same.

It’s only when we see a good quality build that the differences can be appreciated.

  13. Really excellent all the way 'round.

  14. A fascinating lesson in how a WW1 biplane should look. Like many of us, I've had a soft spot for all these a/c from the Biggles era, but have shied away due to the mysteries of rigging and turnbuckles. Tried one or two with intermediate results but your efforts have inspired me to have another go. Great job! Paul

  15. Absolutely excellent work, very realistic.

  16. Beautiful work!

  17. Just Excellent! Jaw dropping rigging!

  18. This is a stunning, gorgeous bi-plane build! The wood work is beautiful. The ribs appearance is very realistic and captured perfectly. The overall finish is A+++ just a masterpiece. You really have motivated me to get another Eduard Bi-Plane on the work bench!

  19. That is a real beauty! Everything about it is excellent.

  20. Thanks everyone for your comments. I realy appreciate your compliments.
    Regards, Igor

  21. Igor,

    WOW!
It is an incredible model and I doubt any other modeler could build a better SE5a. I have the kit with the Hispano and it will give me the inspiration to try to replicate some of your work. Also, when I ever tackle my two WNW SEs I will have to try to do the same.

    Super Work!

  22. Love it! Well done that man!

  23. This one is fantastic ! A true work of art.

  24. All been said - so I’m
just adding congratulations - this is simply stunning!

  25. Classic Igor's masterpiece. I was lucky enough to follow this build in person and I can honestly say that pictures don't do justice to this spectacular build. Cockpit details are just mindblowing, and unfortunatelly they can't be seen in the photos.

  26. Model of the Month and deservedly so, superb work!
    Congratulations Igor!

  27. Again, wonderful work.
