MiG Anniversary group build
8th of December, 2019, will mark 80th anniversary of the establishment of Mikoyan and Gurevich Design Bureau by Artem Mikoyan and Mikhail Gurevich. After the WW2 designs of MiG-1 and MiG-3, with the advent of jet age, the name "MiG" has become a synonym for a bad guy amongst the NATO pilots. Cold War brought classics like MiG-15, MiG-17, MiG-21, MiG-25 and MiG-29 to name just a few. Many of these aircraft were exported and warrant some interesting colourful schemes and markings to the standard Soviet and/or Russian ones.
Group build would last since 1st January until 8th December 2019. Any MiG designed aircraft in any scale and any markings would be eligible.
So, my question to the iModellers is - would you be interested in hoping aboard the MiG "train"?
david leigh-smith said on September 30, 2018
Hell, I’m in. Don’t think I’ve ever built a jet thing - maybe a few 262’s and an F4 or two as a kid. May do a ‘Movie MiG’ and kill two birds (ha) with one stone if that’s ok with you?
Thanks Sebastijan.
Sebastijan Videc said on September 30, 2018
Thanks, David! That would be perfectly fine. I am willing to include what-ifs as well and if they've got accompanying story, so much better. And a Movie MiG certainly has one!
Tom Cleaver said on September 30, 2018
There's always the MiG-3 David... there's even some good kits.

This is a wonderful Group Build idea! The Mig (all of them collectively) has been a subject of great interest to us military modelers for decades. Honouring them is a great idea. Misters Mikoyan and Gurevich certainly invented machines that were and will continue to be a force to be reckoned with.
Great work, Sebastijan!
Sebastijan Videc said on September 30, 2018
Thanks, Jeff!
Paul Barber said on September 30, 2018
Sebastijan, I’m in. Time to get out of 39-45 for 2019! Something completely new for me. Should be fun. Thanks for setting it up!
Sebastijan Videc said on September 30, 2018
Great to hear that! Although, there's still a couple of MiGs that fit the WW2 timeframe as well 😉
Paul Barber said on September 30, 2018
I like those planes too Sebastijan - but I fancy getting out of my comfort zone in 2019.
Bogdan Ionete said on September 30, 2018
I'm in, m8!
Just started a 21!

Great, Bogdan!

Hello! I just joined a few days ago. I am totally in for this GB. It would be as well a great opportunity for me to start posting 🙂
Sebastijan Videc said on September 30, 2018
Welcome to iModeler! Looking forward to see your works!

I'm in! Time to add to my Mig fleet.

I see some "numbers" missing from your roster 😉 Great to have you on board!
Josh Patterson said on September 30, 2018
You know seeing this picture and filling in the missing numbers I just realized the production MiGs (at least from the 15 on) are all odd numbered! 15,17,19,21,23,25,27,29,31. What about the WWII birds and am I missing any modern ones?
Tom Cleaver said on September 30, 2018
WW2 are MiG-1 and MiG-3, and then their first jet, MiG-9. You have spotted something.
Craig Abrahamson said on September 30, 2018
Since I'm no longer on the "active roster" at the workbench, would previously completed examples be eligible to post or is it strictly a group BUILD...? 🙁
Sebastijan Videc said on September 30, 2018
Well, the point of group build is building, I guess. But I see no harm in posting an article during the reveal week, if you haven't done so before.
S. Cubas said on September 30, 2018
A MIG group? I'm IN of course. Great idea. Let's go.
Sebastijan Videc said on September 30, 2018
Great!
Csaba said on September 30, 2018
Well... Eduard´s 1:72 scale MiG-21MF is on my wish list, but I have way too many unbuilt kits… However, I might join, but let me think about that a bit. 🙂
Sebastijan Videc said on September 30, 2018
Well, there'll be almost a year to build one model. Would be glad to have you on board!
Pedro L. Rocha said on September 30, 2018
Sebastien, given that you point an almost whole 2019 year I just might jump aboard. I’ve been wanting a reason to get my hands on the much acclaimed Mig 21 from Eduard, in 1/48. Guess this is it. Perhaps a third world country AF, hum?
Sebastijan Videc said on September 30, 2018
That's one of the main reasons for a long period, that even slow builders, or the ones with priority projects, can still squeeze a build in. I've build a Weekend 21MF in 1:48 and I can attest you're gonna love the build.
david leigh-smith said on September 30, 2018
Hey, maybe I could do a MiG 28 from Top Gun.
I know, I know...
Sebastijan Videc said on September 30, 2018
I don't recall Mr. Northrop ever working for MiG OKB 😀
david leigh-smith said on September 30, 2018
Gosh, you are quick, Sebastijan.

Robert Paschall said on September 30, 2018
I just happen to have a Mig 21PF and a Mig 15 bis in the stash. This might work for me.
John Healy said on September 30, 2018
Great idea, Sebastijan! The Mig-21 is my favorite jet. I'm in.
Louis Gardner said on September 30, 2018
Count me in too... I have plans for building a Tamiya 1/48 scale Mig-15 in the very near future...in these Korean War markings
I may even build the rest of the Tamiya Mig's while I'm at it.
and have been thinking of building an early Mig as well.
The Academy Mig 21 has been calling out to me as well...
So yes, count me in... it's a great idea. 🙂
Pedro L. Rocha said on September 30, 2018
Humm, it’s looking like another splendid ironworks is being cooked 😉
Tom Cleaver said on September 30, 2018
Now we know who's been hogging all the Tamiya MiG-15s I can never find. 🙂
Chuck A. Villanueva said on September 30, 2018
I will toss my hat in with maybe an Iraqi MiG-27 in 48th scale using the old ESCI kit with a lot of help to bring it up to standard. Also eyeing the excellent Great Wall MiG-29 also in Iraqi markings as it appeared in the 1st Gulf War in 91. Looks like a full slate for 2019 is brewing.
Allan J Withers said on October 1, 2018
Sebastijan, I have a few MiGs in the stash to choose from for this GB !
David Mills said on October 1, 2018
Sebastijan, Great manufacturer, looks like I will have to get involved!
Mig 17 I reckon!
Milán Restár said on October 1, 2018
hello Sebastijan, good idea for a GB, I'm definately in with a Hungarian AF MiG-21 MF! ...and with a MiG-23MF (or MiG-23UB, let's see what offers the market) and a MiG-19PM (both hungarian also) if everything happens according to plans (as never does 🙂 );
Greg Kittinger said on October 1, 2018
I'm in! Not sure which it'll be yet, but I've got options...
Dmitry Ryzhenkov said on October 1, 2018
I think that I will join your friendly company. In addition, there is a good reason - I recently received from iModeler lovely set MiG-21MF. I hope you don't mind? ))
Sebastijan Videc said on October 1, 2018
Thanks again to everyone for your show of support! It looks like this Group Build is gonna be quite popular and well attended! I will set up a GB group sometime in December.
George Henderson said on October 1, 2018
I may partake in this one as I have a 1:48 MiG 21 in the stash. I may also have a MiG 3 Early as well but I'm 800 kms from my stash at the moment

Ferry Dierckxsens said on October 2, 2018
Great idea Sebastijan, it will be a new challenge for me so count me in on this GB. I will probably do a MiG 21 foreign user in 1/72 , do some research and will go for it.
Michael Drover said on October 2, 2018
I'd be on that one for sure Sebastian. Love the MiG and any reason to build another one shouldn't be missed!
Richard Mcstay said on October 5, 2018
Well I do have a 1/32 mig 29 in the cupboard...
Darren Dickerson said on October 8, 2018
I would like to add to the Mig build, timing suits and next year a local show is featuring the 1/48 Eduard Mig-21's (WE Kits only) as a theme build. As to which eduard Mig-21? Not sure as yet and with all the marking possibilities... stay tuned!
