HS-129 Panzerjager, heavily worn Kursk warrior.

June 4, 2019 · in Aviation · · 11 · 2.6K

This is an old 1/48 Esci HS-129 I'm trying some heavy wear technique's on. I scratch built an interior and gun sight based on photo's. Rescribed and riveted the airframe, and started by painting portions with Tamiya's acrylic Titanium silver. Then airbrushed several coats of hairspray, and airbrushed the top colors. Finally chipped and scratched with water, a stiff brush and a toothpick. Decals are a mix of OLD kit decals (which needed Microscale decal film to keep from fragmenting) and spares from the stash. is oil pinwash and pastels.

Hope you like,

Colin

  1. Fantastic. You took an old, average kit and made it into a thing of beauty. Nicely done.

  2. When one considers how lacking that kit is in the box, you have created a model that is really amazing. Fantastic work!

  3. Really love what you did with it. Great technique - looks very realistic. Well done.

  4. Great work with the Henschel, Esci, with this kit and the Storch, were my first 1/48 “adult” kits back in the late 80s or early nineties. I still find them surprisingly good, despite being outclassed by the newish Hasegawa and Tamiya options. Your build is a wonderful example of what a talented and resilient modeler can get from this old moulds!

Splendid work, Colin. I also have this ESCI kit "in stock", but I cannot believe the old kit can be finished so nicely. Your work encourages me to build it myself.

  6. Very fine work on this old dog Colin!

  7. Outstanding job, Colin...nice work on this.

  8. 🙂 … Greetings … 🙂 :
Nice one Colin, this is one not too often seen. Nice work on the weathering.

  9. Nice work. I like that plane.

  10. Superb finish on an old kit

  11. Thanks, everybody. It's fun to work on older, basic kits 'cause you can experiment and go to town without spending a lot of money.
