  1. Perfect timing, today is the very day that Pappy was shot down in 1944, captured and became a POW till the end of the war. Neat little Corsair from Revell. There is a story about this particular Corsair that has been written about in a prior posting so we do not have to address it again. Still have to say at first it was a 48th scale Corsair. It is that good of a build. Good work and thanks for sharing. Semper Fi

    • Hello Chuck, thank you for your comment. I have planned building this model for long, as a child I loved watching the series "Baa Baa Black Sheep" about the adventures of the WMF 214.

  2. Beautifully done! Love the weathering/staining and paint work. And that it's 1/72 - my favorite scale!

  3. Nice work. A little gem.

  4. Nice! Great job on the weathering, I love the fuel stains around the cap.

  5. Very nice F4U... If you didn't mention that it was 1/72 scale, I thought it would have been at least 1/48... It looks that nice ! This also happens to be my very favorite aircraft. I also pressed the "Like" button on this article. In particular I like how you have painted yours. Very convincing.

"Pappy" Boyington was the subject of one of my previous builds a few years ago. I built a model, using the tried and true Tamiya 1/48 version, representing the plane he was shot down in 76 years ago today. I currently have plans on building his wingman's plane in the near future. The one that was last flown by Capt. George Ashmun, who was shot down in flames just before Pappy himself went down on this fateful day.

Here's a link if you are interested in seeing it.

    • Hello Louis, thank you for your compliment, I really appreciate it. I have checked your work on the Tamiya model and I have to say that it is incredibly beautiful! Congrats!
I am planning to build the same aircraft in 1/32 scale by Tamiya in the near future.

  6. Beautiful model with great weathering from the Black Sheep Squadron.
