Airfix Fokker F-27 – 1/72 scale

March 10, 2020 · in Aviation · · 14 · 2.5K

I had the intention to build the old Revell Fokker F-27 in 1/94 scale as it brings me good memories, however, I had the Airfix model in 1/72 scale in my stash so I went with this model instead.

Although this kit was injected in a 1960 mold, it apparently has correct dimensions and shapes. But the version operated by TAM (currently LATAM) was longer and had one window more each side, so I decided to keep it with these differences. I built this kit based on the F-27 exposed in Museu TAM located in São Carlos – SP, Brazil, which I visited in 2014.

Construction summary:
Adjust to improve joints,
Adding air intakes made of sprues and resin (one in the aft fuselage right side and 2 smalls in the nose.
Overall sanding, leaving just some few raised panels,
Gluing and the gap filling on the 2 doors,
All antennas made of sprue and wire ,
Seatbelt made of Tamiya tape on the very simple cockpit and
Added windshield wipers.

Finishing summary:
Squadron Green Putty,
Polyester primer,
2 parts polyurethane main white in order to resist the hard masking for blue and red colors painting,
Enamel other colors,
CCS Decals from Brazil and
2 parts polyurethane gloss clear coat.

Conclusion:
This is my first experience building airlines and it was really very hard. But finally a bright color in my collection, and an important aircraft on the airline world story.

This museum is permanently closed, and probably will be transferred to a new location.

  4. Super work Roberto, this friendship looks great!
A distictive aircraft with a very distinctive sound!

  5. Well done! And a great choice of civil airliner! I will have to add one to my stash (the ESCI/Italieri version I guess?) Lots of fond memories of the Icelandair Friendships from my time in Greenland, though they were replaced by Fokker 50's with improved sound - the best commuter-cabin I ever flew in!

  6. A lovely build of a sleek airliner! Nicely done.
