Tamiya 1:48 P-38G,339th FS/347th FG USAAF, Guadalcanal, 1943
this is Tamiya's new P-38F/G. I can't say enough good, no GREAT, things about this kit. the engineers/designers deserve big raises, for the gear bay doors alone, if not for the rest of the way the kit goes together.
though the kit is well detailed, i did add some of my own. they include master Models brass gun barrels, UltraCast main wheels, lead foil/P.E buckle shoulder/lap harness, and Uschi aerial wire. I also added detail wiring to the cockpit and radios and brake lines to the main landing gear legs.
Paints are Mr. Color Olive Drab and Neutral Grey, lightened and modified to get a weathered effect along with some AK Real Color O.D. 31. weathering is also enhanced with a "Wauchop" mix of Tamiya Red-Brown/Black, heavily thinned.
Excellent job! It seems like everybody who does this kit loves it, if only Tamiya would scale it down to 1/72.
if they were to scale down this and their Spitfire Mk.I i would die a happy man.
Wow! Awesome paint job.
Hi Roger
Your P-38 is a cracker!
The kit is really good base to make a masterpiece as you have done!

Darren
Finally a canvas worthy of the master in subtle tonal variations in painting model airplanes. There is the Midas Touch and then there is the Fabrocini Touch. Both are golden. Very nice, very nice indeed.
Two thumbs up Roger .
your words are always sincerely appreciated Stephen, you be well my friend

Great attention to details, the paint work is very well applied and the weathering is so well done.

Another Fabrocini masterpiece. I love how you got the dirty tape residue.
My oh my that's one pretty P-38. I really like what you've done to recreate a weathered and faded paint scheme. Well done
Nicely done, Roger.
Beautifully done. That's a subtle and effective job on the tape marks, undercarriage and cockpit. Well done indeed.

A Beautiful looking model, Roger, as always.
Not normally a "Fan" of the Early P-38 versions, but that Special Hobby F-5 recce conversion that just came out has got my gears turning...
