1/72 scale Kawanishi N1K2-J "Shiden Kai"

April 17, 2020 · in Aviation · 12 · 2.4K

Greetings all ,

This is my first built of 2020 , which is the 1/72 scale Hasegawa kit N1K2-J Shiden Kai nicknamed "George" by the allies. This aircraft was probably the best figther produced by the Japanese that could match the newer U.S fighters such as the Hellcats , P-51's and Corsairs. This was an out of the box build basic technique with mild weathering chipping effects applied to it. Overall the kit was good very little fitting issues and the Hasegawa decals were really easy to work with. Below is the link of the build.

  1. Interestingly, this kit is going on 50 years old, being released by Hasegawa in 1972. This kit, their P-40N, the Bf-109G and the Fw-190D-9 were the first "modern" Hasegawa kits, the result of the influence of a little company called Mania, the company that set the original standard for what we think of as "modern" kits - sharp trailing edges, engraved surface detail, cockpits with detail. Hasegawa cemented their position by hiring those designers in 1975 when Mania succumbed to insuffiicent capitalization, and the rest is history.

Very nice work on this old chestnut, Mee Wan.

  2. That's a great model, Mee Wan.
    All the best!

  3. Lovely build - I especially like the underside - nice mottling and weathering.

  4. Lovely build, you did a really great job!

I have built this kit too, I remember all the flash on the plastic parts and how I struggled with that 😀

  5. Very nice little kit mate!

  6. Very nice model, however I don't like the antenna wire as it seems to be too thick. I have used "asian" ladies long black hair and it accepts super glue real easy.

  7. @meewan92 great Shiden Kai!
