Trumpeter 1/48 De Havilland Sea Vixen F.A.W.2

May 25, 2020 · in Aviation · · 21 · 3.1K

Hi There,

For your delectation and delight I bring you my build of the... Ahem... accurate OOB except fot some tape belts and of course Decals from XtraDecal as the kits ones were very wrong.

I got this kit from a well known online seller in Brechin. A very very nice man. I also went into this with my eyes wide open regarding the criticisms of said kit.
This didn't bother me and to be fair to Trumpeter the fit was very very good. Everything went together with no real problems.

Painted with Mr. Finishing Surfacer White.
Colourcoats Extra Dark Sea Grey, Matt White and Light Aircraft Grey.
Finished with Winsor & Newton Galeria Satin Varnish.

As always,
Thanks for looking and any comments and criticism are welcome.

Cheers,
Alistair

  1. As Arnold famously says in Predator..'one ugly mother...'

That aside she is an interesting looking thing and very definitely a product of her quirky time, but would still hold up in something like Battle Star Galactica zooming around in space! Lovely looking build Alistair 🙂

  2. That's a beautiful build Alistair. This is such an imposing plane, your build depicting it greatly. Cannot comment about the accuracy, definitely looks like an excellently built Sea Vixen to me!
    All the best!

  3. Nice work and a good result with the model.

I'm still glad I have my Airfix Sea Vixen. 🙂

  4. A bunch of Seavixens escorting a bunch of HP Victors could easily go for some Flash Gordonesque interstellar fleet of sci-fi contraptions. Love the British design of the past. Your build made it justice.

  5. Wow , amazing work and an awesome looking aircraft ,well done.

  6. Looks VERY good to me. Nicely built. I don't like jets, I don't do jets, no interest in jets. If i was gonna do a jet, I'd do this one. What's supposed to be wrong with the Trumpy version?

    • Hi There,

      Thank-you for your kind comment.

The tail booms are way too long, their colour callouts are completely wrong with the consequence that after market decals are a must as the kit underwing identification numbers are printed in white on the sheet. The rest of the issues are complaints regarding panels and riveting being wrong but I'm happy to get a kit that looks like a Sea Vixen when done.

      Cheers,
      Alistair

  7. A very interesting yet beautiful design from the British.
You made it look like real. Very nicely build.
