Trumpeter Sukhoi Su-9, 1/48th Scale

May 31, 2020 · in Aviation · · 16 · 2.7K

This is the Trumpeter Sukhoi Su-9 "Fishpot-B', done in 1/48th scale. The model is OOB, except for Brassin AA-1 "Alkali" missiles. The model was painted with Alclad Aluminum paint, and finished with Metalizer sealer. The markings are kit decals, that went on with no problems.

Overall, this was an easy build, and is another for my growing "Cold War" collection.

  1. Very Nice! I have a growing interest in Soviet-ski airplanes. BTW, that is about the cleanest canopy I've ever seen. 🙂

    • Thanks, Joe...you are too kind. The canopy is just like it came from Trumpeter; all I added was the silver paint. Most of the time, I dip my canopies in Future, but this one didn't need it...way to go, Trumpeter!

  2. Beautiful, smooth work on this and a really great result! Your NMF finish is very realistic and looks great.

    • Thank you, Tom...I appreciate it. The NMF is Alclad, over a Mr. Surfacer primer coat, then finished with Metalizer sealer on top. I highlighted some panels with other shades of Alclad, just for variety.

It really is remarkable that I managed to get this model completed, because, among other things, I have "Holding the Line" and "MiG Alley" on my Kindle, waiting to be read. Also, I saw a new title that is set for a Fall release ("I Will Run Wild"), so I need to get busy and catch up. I really enjoy your books; they are excellent!

      Thanks again!

  3. Nice work on an uncommon (for model world) plane. NMF is always tricky.

  4. Excellent job, looks great!

  5. That's a great clean build and a spectacular result, Marvin! Not seeing this plane often built, it's a very welcome sight.
    (Only reapeating) NMF is great!

  6. Great build Marvin - nice clean finish. Well done!

  7. Beautiful painting Marvin.
Always impressive to see these aluminum painted models.
