Tamiya 1/32 Scale P-51D with aluminum skin Part 1
This article is part of a series:
Hello fellow modelers! Well i'm at it again with the aluminum skin builds. As you can see I am well under way on this P-51D from Tamiya. Great kit so far, few little fit issues but nothing crazy. Scratch built the seat cushion some wiring and of course adding real metal to it. Can't wait to get her finished up! Stay tuned for the final product.
I will be putting this model up for sale after it is completed.
Looks great so far.
Good thing you're not building the Revell P-51D! LOL
Hahahahahaha...I stay away from Revell lol
Rick...you are a true craftsman. Wonderful work. When will she be complete & ready to fly?
Thank you so much Bob! I’m hoping another 2 weeks, I’m moving along pretty well ?
Really nice! Is this kitchen foil? What do you use as an adhesive? Thanks for sharing pics.
Thanks Ilan! No I use aluminum sheets and cut each panel individually.
What kind of sheets; How do you adhere them?
Great work! Looks like the real deal!
Thanks Michel! That’s my goal ?
I would have thought that after the 104’s you’d had enough it this metal madness! But I’m glad you haven’t because it is a really awesome technique. Keep up the great work Rick!
Thanks Jim! I’m tired of doing it, but I just can’t go back to using silver paint! Real metal looks too good when it’s done!
True craftsmanship on show here.
Thank you my friend!
Another amazing one! It looks like you've got metal fever.
Thanks Dan, I’m stuck in the metal vortex lol.
That's a wonderful work, Rick!
I'm definitely glad you didn't stop producing these masterpieces!
You know, it looks like the real thing because it actually IS the real thing. Great work with the aluminium skin Rick.
Whoa! That looks amazing. I can't wait to see the finished product.
Thanks Ben!
Impressive work Rick.
Thank you Tom
Agreed with all above comments. This is craftsmanship more than modeling. Beautiful work inside and out. Do you use Bare Metal foil?
Thanks Matt! I never use bare metal foil. I find it too thin and not very realistic.
Fantastic...
Thanks Marc!
