X-3 Stiletto

October 17, 2020 · in Aviation · · 11 · 2.4K

I somehow found this scale kit by on the web site back in mid 2015. Like any modeler, I just had to have that kit. I never heard of a real jet aircraft that looked like this. I don't recall if the clear model came with the white version. However I have both kits in my collection.

You will note that I put lots of "b-b's" in the nose so it would not be a "tail dragger."

  1. Nice builds! Reminds me of the box scale Revell kit.

    • You mean this one

      • Yes...When did this kit come out? Mine was built in 2015. As mentioned before I had to quit modeling in 2016 due to my "shaky hands."

        • This was originally released in 1955, I believe its an "S" box Revell release, though I'm far from an expert on Revell, pretty solid with Monogram, Revell less so. Anyway this release was from their "Strategic Air Power" series from 1968/69. I built one about 1970 from this release. The one I bought recently has a 1969 date.

  2. Nice kits, Rodney!
The clear one looks so unusually great!

  3. Those are great builds, Rodney.
They look sharper than a knife.

  4. Great build, Rodney (@f2g1d), especially in 1/114. I have liked the X-3 since I saw it in the 1980s in the Air Force Museum.

  5. Very cool, great looking plane, failure as X-planes go due to underpowered engines, but man what a looker!

  6. HI GUYS!

This was a neat little kit to build. It would be great if there was a 1/48--1/32 scale kit out there. The black painted item in the center of the clear kit was the jet engine.

  7. Thank's everyone. I'm going to try and add some more "X-3" photos here as I have never done it before. Now all I do is click on the "+" sign below and add my extra photos that I put on my desk-top. It look's like I did it with 5 more photos. I guess I should do a story for the inverted wing jet that is in the photo with my X-3 and the airline model. WOW! I sure built a lot of different models. The last. photo is of my present office desk and the Apple p.c. that we use for everything. Enjoy!
