Airfix 1/48 Hurricane Mk.1 Tropical

January 1, 2021 · in Aviation · · 5 · 2K

I managed to finish this just before the end of 2020 so 2021 can start with a new project.

A nice kit that builds well, al is OOB except for the belts which are made from tape and wire (and I think might be a little too big).

I put a lot of new techniques into this one, I don't usually weather my builds but as I want to include this in a diorama it would need to be in a used condition and as the desert theatre would have been harsh this plane would have been a bit battered. So I tried out chipping (using hairspray over the aluminium coat), panel lining and pastels for dust and smoke effects.

I think it turned out well and I'll definitely be including these techniques in future builds.

  1. Looks nice and worn, Matt!
    Well done!
    Happy 2021!

  2. Nicely done, Matt.
That interiour is a pretty complex build.
    Best wishes.

    • Indeed it is. I like it thouh as it adds strength and structure to the whole thing and ensures the wings sit at the correct angle. If more kits were designed this way it would make fixing the wings at the correct angle so much easier.

  3. I really like that scheme! A nice looking Hurricane - well done!
