Revell 1/72 Avro Shackleton – WL747 "Florence" 8 Squadron RAF Lossiemouth 1979
This one was personal.
We used to get most of our AEF at Lossiemouth when I was in the Cadets and whilst this was mostly Chippie based, one glorious summer Sunday we got a long flight in this Grey Lady.
Still one of the most memorable times I had in my youth.
Some aftermarket added - Eduard Cockpit set and Brassin Resin Wheels.
The crew ladder was purloined form the Airfix MR.2 kit
Primed with UMP Grey.
Painted with
Colourcoats Dark Sea Grey, Interior Green, Matt White, Light Aircraft Grey and Medium Sea Grey
Tamiya Nato Black, Rubber Black, Gloss Red, Clear Red and Clear Green.
Mr. Hobby Dark Iron
Molotow Chrome.
Washed with Citadel Nuln Oil, Seraphim Sepia and Flory Dark Dirt.
Finished with Windsor & Newton Satin and Matt varnishes.
This wasn't the simplest build I've had as there was some slight warping to be dealt with.
Thanks for looking,
Cheers,
Alistair
Excellent work, Alastair. Who would’ve ever thought we’d have four new tool Shackleton kits from two manufacturers in 2021?
Thanks very much.
I know for years we only had the Frog version which was impossible to find at a decent price and now we have an embarrassment of riches.
Cheers,
Alistair
It looks personal. Very well done.
Many Thanks
You created a wonderful Shackleton, Alistair.
Indeed a lot of warping which you corrected very well.
Can imagen that it was a memorable time, you will never forget.
Lovely build.
Thanks so much.
I am looking at her now and yes the memories all come flooding back
🙂 ... Greetings ... 🙂 :
A very well produced rendition of the Shackleton, Alistair.
Besides the little short comings, the end result truly shines a bright light.
Good painting and choice of colors.
Thank you very much.
Alistair, This is a Beauty, nice work overcoming the fit issues.
Many thanks
Beautiful work, Alistair!
A Flight with this lady must have been an event to remember.
Thank you. You are too kind.
It was a huge surprise to us. The Flight Lieutenant kept it a secret until we were there.
That's beautifully done! The finish work really brings it to life.
Many thanks Greg.
Fantastic looking Shackleton Alistair!
Must have need an incredible experience.
Many, many thanks for your kind comment.
It was and is one of my fondest memories.
Cheers,
Alistair
Really nice work - you definitely got the maximum+ from that kit. A superb result.
Much too kind but thanks very much.
Cheers,
Alistair
Great looking beastie . My last time seeing one was an impromptu low lvl flyover of my local shops and they came round again for seconds . Think it was for the workers at the engine factory a few miles away but think i got the better view lol
Thanks very much,
The Shackleton was always very impressive when you saw her in the air.
Sadly missed and my one languishes in a terrible state at Paphos Airport.
I prefer to think of her like this.
Cheers,
Alistair
Looks great Alistair.
I really love this plane and model. You inspire me to start the Revell Mark 5 that’s in my stash! Maritime patrol bombers rule the waves !
Thanks for showing.
Thanks very much and you are welcome.
Go for it you'll enjoy it.
Cheers,
Alistair
A Wonderful Beast Alistair !
Great work - it was nice to hear of the personal connection!
Thanks very much.
Cheers,
Alistair
You've really gone to town on this one, Alistair, and included everything but the kitchen sink (sorry, I couldn't resist it). I, too, had the pleasure of AEF in a Shackleton while in the cadets, this time from RAF St Mawgan. Definitely liked.
Thanks so much and I probably asked for it but in my defence it was the only place I could photograph her easily.
Cheers,
Alistair
