1/72 Hasegawa P-51K

March 19, 2021 · in Aviation · · 9 · 1.9K

My first build of 2021 is complete. This is the P-51K. Although the Hasegawa kit is getting a bit long in the tooth, I think it still builds into a nice representation of a . I added CMK resin wheels, Quickboost resin exhaust and PE seatbelts. I had added some resin sidewalls into the cockpit and I think they were Aires. The model was painted with various shades of Alclad and MRP paints. Cleared with Alclad "Light Sheen" for the NMF and "Semi Matte" for the anti glare panel. Antenna was rigged with Uschi superfine thread. Markings were from the box, but the national insignia were from Print Scale as the white was off on the kit ones.

  1. I recall this kit as the "holy grail" back in the mid-70s - the first accurate P-51D in outline. I also remember having the eyesight to scratchbuild a cockpit for it. 🙂

Nice work here. The old dog still hunts.

  2. Great job! Thought it was a larger scale at first.

  3. Great job on a nice, classic kit, Geoffrey!
    Nice add-ons, too!

  4. 🙂 ... Greetings ... 🙂 :
Appealing work for this scale Geoffrey !
It looks to be more slicker than other Mustangs, nice work.

  5. Great build and another testimony to what some call the "True Scale" or the "Gentleman's Scale". Geoffrey I 'm a bit envious of your ability's in making antenna wire on such a small scale.
My gifts and talents fall under the product line called "Easy Fingers" as in can easily break. To add insult to injury I've got a cat who works for the law firm of " Do we Cheat um and How" any hint of an open door and she has to begin the process of discovery . Which means a race to the door and catch and release. Sadly, my Airfix P-51 in 1/72nd broke under testimony. Will have to rebuild. In looking at your kit the wheels appear to be have some better definition in the detail dept. Which may lead to another purchase . . .

    Thank you for sharing.

    Two thumbs up.

  6. Fantastic build, Geoffrey.
Especially in this scale, as said by Robert, it looks much bigger.

  7. A real beauty! I have this in the stash, and you've now shown me what it should look like...

  8. Hello! I like your Mustang! Could you tell me what kit did you use to build? How about finding Dallas canopy?
