Top Gun ‘MiG-28’ (F-5E), Airfix 1/72
Here is a quick post of the 'MiG-28' from the 1986 Top Gun Movie Airfix kit A00502
With 'Top Gun: Maverick' expected release some time this year, Airfix did a re-release of this kit from the original 1987 kit.
After I posted my last build of the T-38, my sons good friend kept whining about wanting a MiG-28, so that was the reason for the build as it's a present for his 26th Birthday coming up.
So, enjoy Jake and Happy BDay - and quit griping or else I need to get you some cheese if I hear any more 'whining'!
Since the Maple Leafs just got knocked out of the NHL Playoffs and hockey season is over in Toronto, I used another Hockey Puck for the mounting base with a metal coat hanger which I sanded down.
Found an appropriate logo on-line and copied onto a sticky shipping label. The base was sprayed with Future.
Went to together pretty quick, but nothing to write home about this kit as it looks like the only thing they changed since the '87 release was the box art.
Painted with X-18 and finished in Micro Satin.
A great looking "Mig28", George.
Wonderful birthday gift which definitely should stop his whining.
Thanks John, I’m sure I’ll be able to get a beer or two when I give it to him.
An excellent stand model, my friend @georgeswork!
A great gift!
Love the base too!
Nice work,I love that stand!
Black Beauty George !
The Hockey puck base is very original and a good idea !
Excellent build. I have a copy of the AFV kit and will probably build the same.
Sorry about the Leafs. They broke my heart/brain too many times with their ineptitude that I am now numb/indifferent.
Looks good, can't wait for the new movie.
The "Mig - 28" is a good looking aircraft but the black livery makes it look particularly sharp.
Nice Job George!
Thanks Gents, (@fiveten), (@roofrat), (@bernardbedeur), (@dbdlee), (@chinesegeorge), (@davem).
Glad you like the build and the stand, I am running out of hockey pucks so I might need to find something else for any future 'in-flight' builds.
Really nice, George (@georgeswork), especially considering how small this model is in 1/72. Well done.
Thanks George (@gblair) - I think 1/72 is my scale for Jets, just big enough and small enough for the shelf.
