11 - Academy 1/48 Hughes 500dIsreali Scheme

October 23, 2021 · in Aviation · · 16 · 2.1K

A nice quick and quite simple build that I put some extra effort into - I wanted to do an scheme but didn't have the decals to so I made a mask of the Yellow V with tape and got a friend to cut a mask of the Israeli roundels for me.

The build was easy and fun, the cockpit and cabin was very empty so I did some scratch building to try and make it look a bit more filled up - then closed it up never to be seen again - ah, but I have photos.

This was the first kit I tried black basing on - and I must say I really like the technique - I think it gives quite a simple paint job a lot of depth and interest.

The front canopy was quite a difficult fit and the glue I used didn't go in smoothly so it left quite an ugly effect in the joints but I've learnt from it.

All in all, it was a lot of fun and a lot of learning.
