11 - Academy 1/48 Hughes 500d – Isreali Scheme
A nice quick and quite simple build that I put some extra effort into - I wanted to do an Israeli scheme but didn't have the decals to so I made a mask of the Yellow V with tape and got a friend to cut a mask of the Israeli roundels for me.
The build was easy and fun, the cockpit and cabin was very empty so I did some scratch building to try and make it look a bit more filled up - then closed it up never to be seen again - ah, but I have photos.
This was the first kit I tried black basing on - and I must say I really like the technique - I think it gives quite a simple paint job a lot of depth and interest.
The front canopy was quite a difficult fit and the glue I used didn't go in smoothly so it left quite an ugly effect in the joints but I've learnt from it.
All in all, it was a lot of fun and a lot of learning.
Beautiful model, Anthony!
I love this scheme a lot, which you recreated perfectly. Nice black basing technique!
Loved your cockpit beefing up, as well.
P.S. Congrats on your new pet 🙂
Haha - thanks Spiros, my new pet is awesome hey.
Thanks I was very happy with my cockpit but now it's invisible haha - well the cockpit you can kind of see but the cabin is gone.
Very nice build, Anthony @anthonyricco
Great work on the scratchbuilding to make the cockpit more attractive.
Thanks John - yes I like doing the extras even if they aren't really visible, nice practice and it extends the life of the build a bit.
Very nice job on this Anthony, well done.
Thanks Neil. Appreciate the comment.
Great job Anthony! ?
Thanks a lot Gary.
Helicopters can be challenging, but all the extra work has paid off on this one, Anthony (@anthonyricco). Looks great.
Thanks a lot George, yeah that extra work is fun.
Nicely done! I like photo seven.
Haha - thats my greatest work - my new pet.
Looks good! I also love the black-basing technique - provides a great base for more subtle paint work.
Hi Greg, yes this was my first try at it and I really like it - gives some nice subtle depth.
Looks awesome. Love the schemes and markings on the Israeli aircraft
Hi Neil, thanks a lot, yeah I really wanted to add the V to it so masked and painted it on - was good practice.
