Hobbyboss 1/48 P-47D
This kit interested me because of its low price point and generally positive reviews. Yes there are no pylons and a few other accuracy issues but as someone who was just looking to add a P-47 to their collection I wanted to give it a try.
Overall I am very please with the kit. Assembly was easy, fit was good, and the end result looked like a P-47!
Mission accomplished.
I added some aftermarket decals from Aeromaster (these were old and did not perform well) and PE belts in the otherwise very simple cockpit. Painting was done with Vallejo acrylics and weathering with oils and acrylic filters.
Enjoy

This is a successful accomplished mission, David @dbutlr
Great paintwork on the tail striping.
An excellent result out of a seemingly solid kit, David!
Well done!
Nice build, David.
Those were my thoughts to the HB kit too...well worth the price and a great way to add the many nose options to one's collection.
"Engine and cowling are both in one pieceā - does it mean no assembly required? But surely this may make it hard to paint?
If I understood correctly, this makes the results even more impressive.
Yes- this is an easy assembly kit, thus the engine is molded into the cowling. I've attached a photo of the sprues for reference. It does make painting very difficult! The whole kit is 40 parts or less
