1/72 Kovozávody Prostějov Zlin 242L, Croatian Air Force, 93rd Base

June 27, 2022 · in Aviation · · 8 · 1.1K

93rd Air Base, or 93rd Wing of Croatian Air Force, was founded in 1992 with main purpose of educating and training future pilots. 93rd Wing consists of Helicopter Squadron and Airplane Squadron.

Helicopter Squadron operates 8 Bell 206b Jetranger helicopters (one of my first posts here ) and provides basic training for helicopter pilots.

Airplane Squadron provides pilot selection and basic flight training on 5 242L airplanes, and advanced training on 20 Pilatus Pc-9m airplanes. Only after I finished this model I realized it came with decals for infamous "403" unit. On May 7th 2020, Zlin 242L number 403 crashed during training flight while tailspin recovery training, killing cadet and flight instructor.

  1. Very nice build, Boris. A sad end to its flying days and that of her crew.

  2. Really great job, Boris!

  3. Very nice build, Boris @grgast

  4. Very neat work, Boris, there’s something about trainers, definitely liked.

    • Yes, from time to time I get bored of hundreds of WW2 airplanes and modern military jets. As a fan of 1/48 scale I'm disappointed with lack of small civil airplanes and trainers in that scale. I wish I could build both Jetranger and Zlin in 1/48.

  5. Nicely done Boris, good looking pair of trainers.

  6. Liked this trainer a lot, Boris. The Jet Ranger as well. Sad ending for 403.

  7. Great looking builds! Sorry to hear about 403's air crew.
