1/48 Monogram P-39D Airacobra

July 27, 2022 · in Aviation · · 38 · 1K

Hello,

For my first post, I propose you the old but nice model of the from . The cockpit layout is mostly handmade. I also used Eduard photoetch for the landing gear. The decoration comes from an Aeromaster decal sheet that I had in my stock for a long time!

I hope you'll enjoy it!

  1. Looks great, Guy (@gaubert). I love building old Monogram and Revell kits, and you have really brought out the best in this one. Well done.

  2. Excellent model, Guy! You made the most out of the classic Monogram kit!
    Welcome aboard!

  3. fabulous p-39, I did this one a few months ago so I appreciate the hard work you put into making this kit a winner. Definitely the best Monogram version I've seen posted on this site and probably the best Airacobra of any manufacture I've seen here period. Well done.

  4. Nice work, Guy. I agree with others that this is still the best P-39 kit in 1/48, and you've done it and yourself proud. I got one out a couple of years ago, but it was so old the plastic had turned cheesy, and I put it aside rather than go to the effort to strengthen the landing gear struts. It's still on the to-do shelf, however.

The scheme you chose is popular among modelers and decal aftermarketeers, but I don't think any have got the mouth quite right yet. The Aeromaster sheet is one of the better ones, and your application looks really good. Congratulations on assembly, painting, and presentation, too!

  5. You entered with an amazing looking Airacobra, Guy @gaubert
    excellent detailing and painting.

  6. Great job on one of Monogram's best! I've also done one many years ago and posted it here. And, btw, welcome to iModeler Guy @gaubert!

  7. Welcome, Guy! Nice work. I think that kit still stands up well.

  8. Welcome and nice first posting! The P-39 is always a great kit to display a nice cockpit. Well done, all around!

  9. Great rendition of a fine, older kit, Guy! Welcome to this site and I know we are looking forward to your other projects.

  10. Very nice. I just finished one myself

  12. Fine build and finish. All good.

  13. Welcome to the iModeler’s site, you’re going to love it here.

Awesome build, this is one nice looking P-39, great job!

  14. It's amazing, how well the now-53-year old Monogram kit holds up. For an "accuracy freak" the only thing that needs be done is to bend the wingtips so it tapers from below outboard the ailerons. You can also rescribe, but it isn't really necessary. The cockpit is accurate. It's probably stood the test of time the best of any of the Monogram kits.

    Nice work on this.

  15. Lovely work Guy - a great result!
