Revell 1/72 Shackleton AEW

February 19, 2023 · in Aviation · · 30 · 596

Here is my built pretty much out of the box but I added screen wipers and detailed the cockpit.

An unusual scale for me although it is still quite a large kit when finished.

The model was finished with XF's and, as I usually do, weathered it with pastels (as well as a Flory wash of dark dirt)

A very straightforward, enjoyable build and one that I can recommend!

  1. The Shackleton AEW looks a bit strange to me. Really great build and weathering. The stripes on the fuselage besides the rondell make "the dot on the i" on the overall grey pait-scheme.

  2. A wonderful result, Kevin! Will make quite an impact wherever it will be presented!
    Congratulations!

  3. Fantastic build of this exceptional aircraft.
Incredible to see that this aircraft was operational till 1991, forty years after its introduction.

  4. Wonderful work of this amazing aircraft model.
Sorry I sold mine but seeing your makes up for it !

  5. This is very nice work and a great result. The weathering is "spot on."

Hard to believe that radome and its contents first arrived in the UK attached to a Skyraider AEW4, then went to a Gannet AEW, and then to this "great bird."

  6. I'm impressed!

  7. Great looking Shackleton Kevin. nice result 👍

  8. Excellent build of a not so glamorous but quite important plane from the Cold War.

  9. Very nicely done- the base looks cool too! Great result on this

    • Cheers David!
The base usually serves for all my kits to be photographed on...I do keep breaking bits off it though as it's made of plaster and so usually needs repairing before I can use it again!

  10. It's so nice to see a Shackleton build, I remember when the Frog kit was the only injection mould kit of the Avro Shackleton. And where I live they were really hard to find. Great job on your build, it looks great!

  11. Many thanks Bob! Yes indeed, the Frog kit was the only Shack in town and commanded high prices when they became scarce. I've still got some decals from the original Frog kit...of no use anymore but I keep them as a reminder of my boyhood modelling days!

  12. Nice job, Kevin. I'll have to admit I'm not familiar with this aircraft...but I do like those contra-rotating props. Again, well done.

  13. Great looking Shackleton. One of my first “air experience” flights as an air cadet was in one of these, unfortunately I was very airsick and don’t remember too much about it.

  14. Outstanding looking Shack. I would like to try my hand at one of these.

  15. Really nice work! Looks fantastic.

  16. Nicely done Kevin, looks good.
